At http://www.ibookparts.com/ they sell Combo Drives for iceBooks. Can I buy one of these and put it in place of my CDROM drive in my iBook 2001 500 CD? I'm planning on upgrading my HD as well so taking apart the case is no bother, I'll be doing it anyways. Has anyone successfully replaced the CD Drive with a combo drive? Are there any complications I should know about in advance? I'm also going to put a 512MB chip in place of the 256Mb I added when I bought the iBook, can anyone suggest any other upgrades other than overclocking? I've read some success stories and some scare stories about overclocking, I know a more than competent electrical engineer but may leave the overclocking and only do it if the RAM and HDD don't give me enough of a boost.
The combo drives are $235 but I'm willing to spend that much for an internal burner that will be compatible with X's finder and iTunes. I'm also assuming the DVD decoding will work, am i right in doing so?

Thanks in advance
Ross

Well after conducting extensive research it looks like swapping out the drive is possible. I'm going to order all the parts from the US except the case for my old HD, www.shop21.co.uk sell an albeit more expensive case but it is powered from the firewire bus, so will be a neater arrangement. Its a $400+ dollar upgrade in the end, 512Mb Ram, 40GB HD, External HDD Case and Combo Drive but I think my iBook will out last me at this rate.
