Do you know if the 60 GB drive is a 7200 or 5400 RPM drive? My wife has a 1 Ghz model with a 40 GB 5400 RPM drive. I tried to repladce the drive and gave up! I have been a full time computer tech for about 15 years and never found a system so hard to get into! I might be interested if it is a 7200 RPM drive in it....

what i have read said that some eMacs have a 7200rpm drive and some have a 5400rpm and that it depended on the particular lot as to which speed drive it has. does anyhow know of a utility i can use to test the speed?

Your System Profiler will give you a drive model number and then you can look it up on the manufacturer's home page.
