So i just downloaded the lastest firmware update for my new MBP C2D 2.4ghz

The Firmware thing ran.. ask me for my password and shut down... then i started up and the light flashed and and computer beeped.. but it just went straight to the apple logo and the firmware didnt update??

any ideas..

I have tried it a couple of times with no luck

Make sure that you're using the Power Cord when you're doing the firmware update.

I am going to let a few more people try this before I do. I want to know if it will muck up my comp.

Mine also says I do not need to upgrade. Can someone post what their BootROM firmware version number is after successfully upgrading?

For reference, mine is: MBP31.0070.B02

For one thing, it adds the ability to use screen rotation on an external display.

Since I can already do that, I'll presume mine came from the factory with the firmware already installed. (Was delivered a week ago today)

My bootROM ends with b00...but my computer doesn't want to update at all.

When i first got my 2.4 MBP I had the rolling bars interference problem. when apple released the software update for the video. it made the bars thicker and slower but made it harder too see. when i did the firmware update it went back to when i first got it but worse. then i did command+option+p+r let it restart 3 times and it got rid of it completely!

I installed the software update 1.0.Tried again to install yesterday,says i don't need the update.Does anyone know if it fixes the dual screen problem on Windows and boot camp?

I just got my 2.16GHz C2D MBP yesterday and ran the Software Update today. I didn't see any firmware updates listed though. I installed all updates and it says everything is up to date now. Any way to check and see if I have the most recent firmware?

I can safely say you have the update already. My MBP was delivered a week ago, and it came with the firmware installed. Open System Profiler (/Applications/Utilities) and verify that your Boot ROM version is: MBP31.0070.B02

OK, and now I'm trying to install the audio update that came out on July 2nd and it's telling me my hard drive doesn't meet the requirements, though it's a new computer with 80GB free and all updates (according to the Software Updater) installed.

And I tried manually installing the 1.3 firmware but it says my machine doesn't need it. I see that the update is for 2.2/2.4GHz Intel based machines and mine is a 2.16GHz C2D machine.

Installed the firmware update on a MBP 2.4GHz, and it solved an audio problem I've been having (and still have on my G5 dual 2.0GHz):

I like it a lot! It's a nice change from my blackbook. I like the feel and illumination of the keyboard, I got the glossy display and really like it compared to the matte, and most importantly it's FAST! I spent 50$ and got an extra 1GB RAM from Crucial and it runs great! Handles Parallels MUCH better than my single core blackbook did. I could go on and on, but long story short, you'll like it a lot! And ya can't really argue with the price from the refurb store!

The MacBook has the same number of cores as the MacBook Pro: 2.

Parallels performance depends on RAM. Using it on a MBP with 1 GB sucks. Using it on a MB with 2 GB is absolutely fine.

I completely agree! I didn't know that Parallels was worthwhile until I upped my MBP to 2GB of RAM. Parallels was slow to load, slow to load the guest OS, and the guest OS was slow. It ain't like a native PC now, but it's a whole lot better!

Think of it in these terms-Parallels has to use RAM for a lot of the guest OS's processes-RAM that has to come from somewhere. With OS X running, that means at best you're splitting that 1GB of RAM between two OSs. Yuck! OS X likes 1GB all to itself. Do the math and you'll see that everything is better with more RAM.

So it runs the same on a Core Duo MacBook and a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, given that each system has the same amount of RAM?

No it doesn't run exactly the same. But going from 1 GB to 2 GB RAM will make a huge difference. Much more than going CD->C2D or from 2 GHz to 2.2 GHz. And ghporter already pointed out why that's what you'd expect.
