I think since we Mac users all want the best in computer-experience way pay a lot for it since we can get the same done on a cheap Dell PC or some other crap. I also think a lot of us have good audio/video/home-cinema systems in our houses. So let's show those off here ! Tell us what you got there in you living room (or other rooms including the toilet-audiosystem)!

- The only exotic A/V item I own is a Sampo DVE-611 multi-standard DVD player w/ PAL->NTSC converter so I can watch movies encoded in other standards/regions.

- I picked up a German PAL VCR in an auction a few months ago, but don't have a PAL TV or an analog converter yet.

- Cheap-o stereo receiver that's older than I am and s*itty speakers, but I'm shopping around for an affordable surround sound receiver/speaker set.

- 32" Sharp TV, also pretty cheap.

- Two VCRs, don't remember what brand

- Also: Atari 2600, NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PS1, PS2...all are used pretty regularly.

-JVC 27" TV
-Sony Home Theatre Reciever with all the goodies *
-Sony 5CD Changer *
-Boston Acoustics Front Speakers

-PSB Sub *

My family neglected to tell me that someone had broken into our house and stolen my things, until the day I got home in April.. It was stolen in November. On the way home from the airport: "How was the flight? Thats nice.. Oh by the way, your stereo was stolen.."

and we still haven't paid the insurance deductible to get the stuff back..

The floorlamp isn't a floorlamp. It is the wire lights that you string across the ceiling. All I did is mount it to the floor and the ceiling.

the Frosted case if for my DVD's and CD's. It is actually a thin soft plastic with metal trim, it is from Ikea Canada about 3 years ago.

things i just sold:

Sony STR-DB840 receiver
Sony DVP-S360 dvd player

things i just got:

Harman/Kardon AVR520 reciever
Harman/Kardon DVD25 dvd player

things i still have:

Epson PowerLite 7250 projector (16x9, 480i/p - 1080i ready, etc)
Sony 5 disc cd player
2 Sony VCRs
Polk Audio RT800i (two pair)
Polk Audio RT55i (one pair)
Polk Audio CS400i
Polk Audio PSW450 subs (two)

Current home theater setup includes 6 real theater seats with cupholders, a couch and a loveseat. Soon to be added Da-Lite screen (currently projecting on to my wall right now, at 78" x 139", bought a gallon of pearlescent type paint ($80/gallon) and just put that on the wall...cheaper then a fixed screen). Lighting and equipment controlled via one learning remote...including all X10 controls for dimming lights, etc. It may not be the biggest and most expensive setup, but i like it. Only thing left is to charge admission...
(fyi, i own a loft...the floor my theater is in is all open/no walls and includes my kitchen/dinning at one end of the room and home theater/pool table/video games at the other end.

Next upgrade/change is all new interconnects along with new speaker connections/outlets and another and upgrade to one single 15 amp circuit to two 20 amp circuits for a soon to purchace amp(s?) for more power and to include the RT55i's in a 7.1 setup.

i have some old photos, but won't post them. i should take a few new ones so people can see it. the old photos where before i had the polk speakers and the 'new' furniture (trashed my ****, and put the woman's stuff in the theater....along with her rocking chairs and bears...don't ask ).

xmas this year should be nice...we both want to get nice recliners, so the couch may go...put loveseat in the middle and a recliner at each end (theater seats are in the back row).

gotta spend $$$, can't take it with you

I used to work summers putting home theaters in, I put some as small as 500 dollars in and some as expensive as one setup was in the 2,000,000 range. It was a house with a built in dome over their home theatre that would open to the night sky so that the theatre was technically outdoors. Some people... my college budget theatre currently includes....(I'll post a pic soon, but my camera is being flakey.. grrr HP!!)

I have a few ancient 8-track players/amps, phonographs and cassette decks. I only use one of them to listen to the radio, because it looks damn cool. All my music is on my Mac, which is connected to Cambridge Soundworks FPS1000 4-point surround subwoofer. I use the sattelites that came with that with the aforementioned 8-track player/radio, and four old, big speakers with the Mac. It sounds sweet, there's loads of bass.

My TV is a 27" piece of crap from Sears, the VCR is some 1980's Kenwood thing. We're getting new furniture and remodeling most of the house, so no money to spend on a home theatre system as of now.

I just took this picture for a similar thread on another web board. It's more of an audio system than a home theater.

32" Panansonic digital TV
JM Lab Electra 915.1 speakers (just two front channels)
Rega Mira integrated amp
Bottlehead Foreplay pre-amp (I bypass the front end of the Rega)
Sony DVP-600D changer
Dish 6000 HDTV receiver including 8VSB module
Cheap Sony VCR
Audioquest Type 2 speaker cables
MIT Terminator 3 & Radio Shack gold interconnects

Click here for a close up of my pride and joy, the Foreplay pre-amp that I built.

Yeah, but my neon was cheap. There's no such thing as 'a good deal' when it comes to home theater. You guys are basically arguing over who spent more money.

Oh please, you are plain old jealous because your home theatre consists of a Lime green iMac so you come up with these small penis, spent more money distractions. Nice try.

see, your 'tvs' are the problem...lcd or dlp front projection, all the way! i will never buy a conventional (plasma, crt, projection, etc again).

black (or gray/grey) bars on the tops or sides are for dorks

i can switch between all ratios and have no bars, no squishing, no zooming, etc. i can't stand going over to a friends house and watching a normal tv!

besides, during midnight showings of RHPS, do you want people throwing toast and squirting your fancy dancy tvs? don't think so...i simply put plastic over my front and center speakers, and people can go at it! wall gets dirty? blah...just wash it. lets see you do THAT on your plasma/crt/projection tvs.

(gotta remember to get a washable finished surface on the da-lite screen when i buy it...

edit: sorry, went smiley happy...why, not sure...damn things

Han Solo: I posted what I have already. Its a 32" proscan with a decent amp and some decent speakers. Bam. Good enough unless you're watching a DVD that only has a 5.1 track. Then its muddy.
