If you're talking about the red star badge, it'll show up if you replace the icns in the mail.app package contents.

MDC Gratsi Amigo. I have already had a great time making icons of friends for friends this past day thanks to this template you provided! I think that's a fantastic idea to make icons. Did you have "real stamps" in mind?

Typo there it should be [url=http://mike.cosentino.com/stuff/Mail.psd] that is "stuff" rather than "sutff"

my pleasure. i'm contemplating doing some "real stamps" sometime. i'm a bit busy with school work right now. i just did not like the eagle and the american flag was the first stamp i found on the usps.com website.
i just did one for someone on this forum. it is a commemorative stamp for the 11th of march spain events.

Never thought I'd become a *stamp collector*, but your icons are really cool! Could you make one with the old *striped* apple logo?
My favorite striped apple is here http://www.grnluvbug.com/desk/archiv...hive_desk.html It's the one one the desktop picture called Apple X 8/03. (hint, hint?)
Thank you for sharing!

no. all you do is download the .sitx file and decompress it. there will be two files in there.
1 is app.icns. go to your mail app and control+click on it and choose show package contents and then go into the contents/resources folder and find the file called app.icns. rename it to something, to back it up. and then copy the new app.icns there.
if you want to, you can get info the icon file and the mail.app and copy the icon image onto mail.app.
now you have a new icon for mail

Thanks for the striped apple mail icon. I spend most of my time in the other forums but I have always liked replacing icons and this one is great.

fg: edit the photoshop file and then open a app.icns file you got and in iconographer file > import > current member, and import the edited photoshop file. in the members on the right you have to click one that is not like the photoshop you just imported then apple+a to select all and delete, and then click the thumbnail member and then add members and add members for all the 32 bit members and from: current member. then save it as a .icns file and copy it into mail. got it? good.
...
three new icons. yes, i am bored.

i thought the official mail usa - penalty for personal use $300 use was amusing. too bad the scaling down of it kinda messed up the personal use part.

wellif you are truly boredand are in the mood for another suggestion, is there a stamp for *9/11* with the Twin Towers--World Trade Center?

Grrr! While the US Mail seams to have high quality images of most (if not all) of it's stamps on there site, The UK Royal Mail site has large numbers of nasty compressed Gif's on it's site example. Perhaps they are worried about counterfitting?
There are some though that may make nice icons (the 'country definitive' ones).

went mad (if you are really into icon making then the iconfactorys photoshop plugin is great) and did loads of UK stamps.
You may have to right click to download, I don't know how the server handles .icns files, or download all the icons in one stuffit file.

Sakino
Go to: Applications>Mail, then click once on Mail to select/highlight it. Then *get Info* from either the File Menu or Command-I, or the contextual menu (right-click).
Do the same process with the new icon to *Get Info*. Click once on the new stamp icon and hit Command-C (or which ever way you choose to *copy*). Then click once on the Mail Icon in the Get Info box and hit Command-V (paste).
There will be a blue *halo* around the icon in the Get Info box when it is selected and ready to be copied or pasted.

Thanks I should have expected it to be that way, I know how to change icons. I just remember doing this in the past and having it not work, it would always go back to the default icon. We will see how it goes. Thanks

i have read, but not tested it, that if you get new mail and the new mail bade comes up it will revert to the original icon. if this is true. use the app.icns file in the archives and 'show package contents' on mail.app and go to the contents/resources folder and backup the app.icns and put the new one in.

Yeah, for mail, you have to change the app.icns icon in order for it to stay. Simply changing the icon in the "get info" window will make it revert back when you get new mail and the red icon on the top of the dock icon appears.

hmmmthis has not been my experience. I changed my Mail app. icon with *get info & copy/paste* the 1st day mdc started posting these cool stamp icons and it's working exactly like it does with the native icon. This on both of my iMacs using Panther 10.3.3.
Anyone else?

im with judie on this one. just the old fashioned get info cut paste whatnot. i know what youre talking about with the app.icns thing, i had to do that with the system prefs icon...

That's weird, b/c for me the cut and paste method worked for me for system prefs.

Because the Mail dock icon is a complicated beast, the way it's updated with the 'new mail' badge the usual 'get info & paste' method doesn't replace the correct icon file (it will replace the Finder app icon but the one that appears in the Dock won't be changed). To replace the icon so the 'Dock badge's' still work you have to replace the app's app.icns file. this is located at "Mail/Contents/Resources/app.icns". The best thing to do is to rename the original then place the custom one in the same location, then rename the new one "app.icns". This way you won't loose the original Apple icon, incase you want to revert.
