Download and run that in OS 9. If it says the firmware is up to date, then cancel it. If it lets you proceed, update the firmware then try installing Panther again.

My bad, it appears you were given this update in another thread. Sorry. You may want to run disk utility from the CD to fix any and all errors with the hard drive before installing.

i have ran disk first aid in os 9 and it says there are no errors. if i go to disk utility it just freezes.

Download and run that in OS 9. If it says the firmware is up to date, then cancel it. If it lets you proceed, update the firmware then try installing Panther again."

i have downloaded that and it says it cant recognize my firmware version and it says i may have a newer version.

if i go into open firmware it says
"Open Firmware 3.0.f3"
thats up-to-date isnt it?

I got past the destination thing last night. it got to the installation stage, checking disk went up to 100% but then it froze.

also, yesterday and today when i get to the destination stage, i click on my hard drive and then the whole screen goes blue and shows the grey bar circle spinning loading sign type thing and i hear no activity at all and i does that forever.

I'm having the same problem with a 333mhz iMac as well. I was able to load Jaguar fine, but now trying to upgrade to Panther I am getting the "Blue Screen of Eternity." I'm starting to wonder if my Panther disk has gone bad on me . . . .

160mb of RAM is not enough to run OS X. You need 256mb as a minimum, 512mb is preferable.
