[EDIT]oOOoops, I mean, CoreAnimation[/EDIT]

OK, Unsanity, you've been to WWDC and seen CoreAnimation...
I am just wondering what kind of ideas you may have now that you have the power of CoreAnimation.

For that matter, what kind of theme apps, or UI experience apps does this community have after seeing CoreAnimation?

I know this topic has a fare amount to do with Apps, but I'd hope that the mods don't move it to be drowned in the apps section, please.

Well, I'll say this - I left the lab one day at WWDC with a gigantic smile on my face. And that's probably about as far as I can go without breaking my NDA.

Um... This is actually a great point!

Don't forget that Mr. Bart is really good with animated GUI stuffs. If we have any kind of control with this, I think the Phoenix will rise again and make us eat all of these pokes... without any mustard even

Agreed.

Just wondering... What are you working on now smeger? I mean, if this doesn't break your NDA. What kind of features should we see in YOUR apps?

I bet Jason is giving a very vague hint... he didn't actually say anything really... he said he was happy. I was happy when BBX Omega was going to come out and Jason said it would take a few versions of SS before that would happen and we never ended up seeing that theme even though SS changed and changed and changed some more. Don't get all hyped out just yet... you haven't even heard anything yet. Wait until you at least hear something interesting before you get excited about nothing. Now, back to my cave.

Oh... I know. I tend to be a little sensationalist at times. I'm just optimistic that there will be more opportunity for developers to create good UI software. To hear Jason say that he was happy, well, to me, that's sayin' a lot. Besides the theme creation software, Jason didn't have anything to do with Omega.

Here's for hoping!

We all know that BBX is waiting on animation capabilities in SS. As Jason said numerous times, BBX needed features that smeger originally planned for version 1.0. As we know now, and as Jason said also, he wasn't able to deliver the needed features.

I'm guessing that the above hint from Jason is a step in the right direction...

CA is pretty frickin' shiny; I must say I'm a little curious how smeger plans to apply it to theming though. CoreImage seems more directly applicable.

He could allow people to assign "animation events" to clicks. So, when you click the close button, a small OpenGL animation (which you've made in some other app) would happen.

Example: YOu are using Amora, you click the close button and small glowing sparks fly out of the area with sound!

Things to think about:
Mouse effects: click events, mouse overs, on_releases stuff... the usual..

Window possition effects (not just trans, but blurring. An animation layer could be inserted between the windows that have focus or not... The ones that don't have focus end up looking like what Frodo sees in LOTR

GLX-like effects: YouTube - ubuntu + glx

All of this could potentially be allowed with CoreAnimation. Jason would need to find a classy way to integrate this into ThemePark AND create some defaults.

Any comments Jason? I could be way off...

I'll be interested to see if you can do glx-style stuff without messing up apps not designed to deal with it... I haven't played with CA enough to get a feel for exactly how it affects things (also I can't really talk about it ).

Could we get the Moderators to change the title of this thread the "CoreAnimation And the Future of Themeing" ?

Thanks,
