It just started. Best time of the year!!! I hope my Wings will go deep. All the way actually.
Sharks, Ducks, Stars in the West, and Habs, Rangers and Penguins might have something to say about that though.
Go Wings!!!

The Caps-Flyers game last night was spectacular. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but the Caps are so hot going into the playoffs that it's hard to temper my enthusiasm.

GO HABS GO!! I'm a life-long diehard Habs fan and this is the most exciting team we've had in a long time. We're going to pummel Boston, mark my words, then roll from there. The only team that scares me a bit in the East is Pittsburgh. In the West Detroit does look awfully good yet again.
edit: 'tis the season so I've updated my sig to echo this post. GO HABS GO!

The Wild are driving us crazy. This is one of the best seasons we have ever had, and all they keep doing is getting stuck in overtime. This is going to make us in Minnesota nervous wrecks.

It was a fun game. AO came through big time at the end.
Trivia question : do you know why Huet wear #38?

Montreal is a FAST and exciting team. Kovalev is having a monster year. I am still on the fence about trading Huet though. So far Price is outplaying Thomas, although one could say that Thomas is not playing so well either.

I hear ya. I thought they were nuts at first when the deal was made but Price has been rock solid with only a handfull of shaky moments since he got the starting job fulltime. The kid is just so calm all the time, nothing fazes him at all - you can tell that he's going to just get better and better. Trading Huet was risky, aka ballsy, but then there's a reason that Bob Gainey is running the Canadiens, not us.

Lets go Pens!
I've been a dedicated pens fan ever since i was a young gun but i'm scared of those Habs, i thought after Huet was traded Price would falter as a rookie in the playoffs, but hes looked solid.
my second team has always been the wings, but i'm unsure if Hasek can hold up against the Sharks in a later round.

Sharks are gonna melt the ice this year. You can't stop them. Mwuhahahaha! Riots in San Jose! (I'll be hanging out next to the Apple Store when the looting starts...)

Not specifically. It's close to 39, his Habs number? I know he was originally going to be 33 when he joined the Caps (Patrick Roy's number, right?), but he decided to go with 38 instead.

Rootin' for the Avs to win (of course) and the Ducks to fail (fingers crossed for Bertuzzi to get a spectacular career ending injury), but all that aside, the Sharks are the team to beat this year.
Doesn't matter much who comes out of the east (go Habs!). They're just fodder, really.

Mind you I might be wrong on this one, but the département he is from in France, Isère, is #38 in the administrative ranking. I don't think it's a coincidence!

The issue isn't that he traded Huet; the issue is that he traded him for nothing, and gave an Eastern Conference team a starting goalie.
That's the issue. Why trade at all, if you get mostly nothing in return?

A 2nd round, while not much, is still better than losing him to UFA. Ask the Sabres about it.

Exactly. Gainey et all knew they were going to make Price the starter anyway, so just shipped Huet off to the only team that wanted him, it would seem. I, too, would have thought there was more of a market for an Allstar goalie but there obviously wasn't.

That's precisely my point. You got a second-round player for him; that's probably pretty close to a wash. In return you gave a starting goalie to an Eastern Conference opponent, who then made the playoffs with him!
Seems pointless to me. I guess it worked by giving Price free reign and showing their confidence in him. . . but I dunno. A second-rounder (probably late I imagine) is more or less nothing. Seems to be a quality "All-star" backup would be better when trying to make a playoff run after having such a great year.
*shrug*
Anyways, just saw the last part of overtime. . . can't believe Price managed to get his glove on that last goal, even if it deflected in (at least that's what it looked like to me). Dude is pure lightning.

yea wow that habs game was intense,
also the devils pulled out a huge win against the rangers which i'm unsure if thats good or bad for me, I really don't want my pens to play the devils in a later round but Lundqvist is a goalie that could steal a series too.

GO SHARKS!!! What a horrible game last night, but I'm glad to see they took a late-game win. I couldn't count how many missed passes there were. Nabby kept the scores reasonably close. A last second game winning score was perfect.
Geeze it's weird having Ricci as a commentator instead of on the ice.
But man, that's just what the Sharks needed to clinch the first round. A late game win will have them fired up for the Shark Tank. *cue Jaws theme*

Look how Phoenix picked up Bryz on waivers for nothing. With a draft as deep as it is this year, none of the teams that are rebuilding and need a starting goalie are going to give much for a UFA. You have to get some kind of assets for someone that has no future with the organization. I think a 2nd round is pretty good, under the circumstances.

That was an exciting game. Kipper almost single-handedly stole that game. Glad to see Thornton, Cheech, and Michalek come out of their playoff shells. Gooch was awesome in his first playoff game. I hate Iginla.

That was 2-1. :-) But yeah what a relief. I don't understand why the Wings have so much trouble scoring... They are missing a Hull or Shanahan-type sniper.

You're right. After the first game it looked like Montreal's offense would keep firing but it's slowed to a miserable crawl. Kovalev in particular has been terrible the last few games. Every time he gets hit he loses the puck, then pouts for 5 seconds while the play goes the other direction. Pathetic.

Ah, Wings are finally done with the first round. Always a scare somehow. Ellis played well, got unbelievably unlucky on that rebound, but at the end the issue of the game is logical.
On to the next round for the Wings! Hopefully Z will wake up : he has not been very sharp.

The Wings are going to lose in round two to the Avs.
And Wings fans everywhere will feel pain.
And the good people of the world will be happy.
Then the Avs can lose in whatever manner the feel is best.
