can anybody tell me the ill effects of putting the powerbook to sleep all the time? 12 incher. is it bad to always keep it plugged in? i've heard it kills batteries. is it safe to transport it around school, on super shakey cable cars, on busses etc .. in my messenger bag? is it safe to have it in sleep mode? or will it damage internals? i was told by a 12inch powerbook owner that i should not transport the book in sleep mode. that i should always shut down. any FAQ's or insights u guys got for me? (and anyone else who's curious)

thanks for your input

My 12 inch PB AL has spent its days since last Sept constantly going into and out of sleep mode. I typically only sleep the machine. Only, perhaps two or three times a month do I restart or completely shut it down. It rides to and from work in a carrying bag. While at work it goes in and out of the bag multiple times. No problems whatsoever. I just make certain it is actually latched shut when I close it. On average it probably undergoes a dozen or more sleep/wake cycles per day. I think that pretty well tests the limits of sleeping the machine. As for power, I try to run it on the AC adapter as much as possible. Only on occasion is it run on battery, and then only for an hour or two to avoid damaging the battery chemistry. A full run down for battery management resync is something I do only every four or five months on my Mac's. This strategy has kept our iBook batteries in top condition. My PB is likewise doing very well.

I think he meant re-calibration.

Run the battery down until the 'book goes to sleep on its own.

Then recharge it fully.
