I need RAM and more RAM.
Looking for two 512MB DDR sticks and two 1GB DDR sticks. I have a ton of old RAM I can trade if you need something for an older machine...the iMac G5 I just picked up only came with 512MB, and Leopard is absolutely crawling.
I don't want to pay the ridiculously inflated prices for low-density RAM on eBay, so I figured I'd try here.
Also looking for a non-unibody MacBook LCD, preferably in the plastics (white).

You're looking for 2x512MB AND 2x1GB? Multiple iMacs I guess?
I'm pretty sure I've got plenty of both... Make me an offer if you want...
BTW, gotta check on those iPods for you. They're sitting in boxes at my folks... so next time I'm there.

One pair is for a first gen iMac G5, the other is for a Linux server. It turns out that high-capacity, low-density DDR RAM is stupidly overpriced these days. I just can't justify shelling out $60 for RAM for an old machine, especially when DDR2 and DDR3 RAM is dirt cheap.
Just let me know...thanks!

Is that the one with or without the camera? DDR400 or DDR533?
|
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Without - very first gen, pre-ALS.
I think it uses DDR400, but DDR533 should underclock just fine...
I've been using this thing quite a bit since I got it a week ago, and holy hell it's slow. I suppose it probably ran Tiger fine, but Leopard crawls with even the simplest tasks (Expose, Spotlight, playing DVDs frequently drops under 30fps...).

The two versions without the camera both used DDR400, the 533 doesn't actually fit. I'm surprised you can't find any, there were a whole lot of AMD machines which used compatible RAM as well as the single core PowerMac G5s.

Oh, my bad - I forgot DDR533 was DDR2.
It's not that the RAM doesn't exist out there, it's that it's really overpriced. A 2x1GB kit from Crucial is $60, and even on eBay the prices are around $40-$50. I don't know why DDR desktop RAM is so expensive, but it is. I guess the supply is slowly dwindling as DDR is no longer previous-gen spec, similar to what I saw happen with PC66/100/133 RAM in the mid-2000s when DDR2 was introduced.

I did, finally. I found some sticks on eBay for about $15 a stick.
I am still looking for an old iPod, though, and an iSight camera...mostly because I want to accessorize my iMac G5.
