Logitech is taking on the Nest Cam and other home-monitoring cameras by releasing its own network-connected camera, but one with an unusual feature. The Logi Circle is able to stream video over the local network or Internet like its rivals, except it can also be disconnected from power and be moved around without a physical connection, allowing it to stream in a different location over Wi-Fi for up to three hours using its internal battery.

The spherical camera includes connectivity over dual-band Wi-Fi, as well as Bluetooth, with it streaming HD video with a 135-degree field of view, and it also houses a microphone and speaker, allowing it to be used for two-way conversations using the app. It connects to the charging dock magnetically, allowing it to be easily detached and used elsewhere, with the dock able to be wall mounted as well as used as a stand on a flat surface.

The accompanying cloud service is able to store 24 hours of recordings, which can be viewed via the iOS and Android apps alongside the live feed. To save users from watching all the footage, the Daily Brief will show a quick replay of the day's footage in a 30-second clip, while the Scene Intuition system can be used to identify and record activity it believes to be of interest to the viewer. Along with the recap, push notifications can be sent to the apps, advising of any major updates the camera has captured.
