I miss it, but at the same time I'm seriously annoyed by the whole thing. The NHL has lower television ratings in the U.S. than the WNBA. It is a regional sport at best. Hockey needs to grow an audience inside the U.S., so they do this by a lock out/strike? Brilliant. Some owners are saving money by not having a hockey season, players are still making some money playing elsewhere, and other than hard core hockey fans, no one cares. Its a shame, because it is an awesome sport.

Yes, but only because I haven't had the time to check the local minor leagues. Always some hockey going on around here.

I like hockey but I agree. There came the lockout and like no one cared. I barely found mention of it in the sports section. I'd be surprised if the NHL survived this.

The Denver Post here has two kids play each missed Avalanche game on an XBox and they report the results in the paper. So far I think the Avs are 6-2 after crushing the Canucks 7-4 on Saturday night.

Yeah, I was looking forward to the Blues having another season where they fail to make it past the first round of the playoffs.

I do ocassionally, as it's the only pro sport I have an interest in, but both sides have brought this on themselves. I'll live without it, even if it goes away.
If the Tour DeFrance went away, however, I'd be upset.

Yes, yes and yes.
The minor league team here stopped playing about two years back, so now all we have is college hockey here. At least the local team is pretty good.

What I don't get is that the players don't want a salary cap but are now willing to play hockey in other various leagues for jack. Conversely if the owners were making tons of money off the backs of the players it would be wrong not to share the wealth.
On topic: it is amazing how little attention the lack of hockey has produced. People seem to have moved on or filled the void with other sports, OHL and things like that. Perhaps the players have over played their hand

The Alaska Aces (ECHL minor league) picked up Scotty Gomez for the duration of the lock out.

Hockey???? You mean Hookey? What is hockey?
j/k
I was up in Toronto, Canada on a business trip and I happened to hear the anouncment from the NHL Chairman (I believe he was the chairman). Anyhow, I heard the whole speech.
The guys on the radio said that it will be two years before it is resolved.
By the way, those little green number signs you got along all your roads. Are they specific to each house on a street or are they unique for each house in a county?
I'll bet they spent a pretty penny on that deal.

If I recall, the offer that the owners wanted was a percentage of profits. Right now more than half the teams were loosing their arsk.

Is this a serious question?
They are mileage markers, lets you know how close you are to something, or how far you are from something, usually major towns/landmarks...

Yes, I'm missing it. When I go to Germany, I'll be missing it so much that I'll probably breakdown and go see some games over there. It could be a pleasant experience if only they would get rid of all the crappy advertising on the uniforms!
Again, athletes have shown that their "love for the sport" is bettered only by their love of money. How many hundreds of thousands or millions a year does one require!

Wrong!!!!!!
Not in Canada. Each and every residence has these little green signs along the road. I'll see if I can find a photo.

Not quite. There are two different little green signs - I'm not sure which we are talking about :
- kilometre markers. They have vertically printed numbers to mark how far you are along a specific highway. Not all highways have these. In Ontario, the exit numbers on highways also roughly mark how far along the highway you are. In other provinces, this is not necessarily the case.
- House have little green numbered signs with 3 - 5 digit numbers at the end of their driveways by the road in rural areas. These are there for when you call 911 - the cops/ambulance/fire trucks know where to stop. It's basically a house number, but since in rural areas, the house is so far from the road, they put the signs by the road for better visibility. In towns and cities, we have numbers on our houses - not little green signs.

Nope. Further, I hope the NBA goes on strike too. I can't stand either sport.

Those of us in Chicago are almost glad that there won't be a hockey season this year because the Hawks have gotten so bad that they're depressing to follow.
Then again, now we have more time to focus on how the Bears and Bulls depress us.
Bring back hockey.

Yeah, I miss it, much like everyone in the city. That's why the Oilers brought the Road Runners here: http://www.edmontonroadrunners.com/
And, just so everyone knows, the league hopes to make it through a year without a CBA. Then, they can hire replacement players and enforce a salary cap.

Tell me, what is gay about twirling around on ice wearing tights whilst holding a woman up?
