Hello,

I took a harddrive out of one of my macs while away travelling. I'm now back and want to put it back into the old mac. I know the HD is working, I can access the files fine when in an external reader. When I put it in the computer and start up I get three beeps, and then nothing else.

I'm not positive if the jumpers are correct (I might have switched them while travelling when putting it into another computer). Right now, the two, top and bottom on the far left are capped, and then there is one cap going horizontally on top next to the capped ones on the left.

If it's not the jumpers...what could it be?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

thank you

Dealing with a similar issue on my Powerbook:

1 beep = No RAM installed/detected
2 beeps = Incompatible RAM type installed (for example, EDO)
3 beeps = No RAM banks passed memory testing
4 beeps = Bad checksum for the remainder of the boot ROM
5 beeps = Bad checksum for the ROM boot block

Right. Three beeps is bad RAM. So, you there are a few possibilities:

1) The RAM went bad since the last time you booted the machine
a) You fried it by not grounding yourself
b) Something else happened in the process
2) The computer just thinks the RAM went bad

Your best shot here is to reseat the RAM and hope that fixes it.
