So on my MBP my mic doesn't work in online games. In counter strike you can't hear me (no noise at all), and sometimes when I press the talk button it doesn't even recognize it (as if there were no mic). I tried using an external mic, plugged it in to the mic port and nothing happened. How can I make the mic work?

The port on the laptop is "line-in" not mike level. So, you need either a USB gaming headset, or an iMic adapter for your present mini-plug headset.

So on onboard mic is essentially useless as well? I'll look into a usb headset I guess.

I think you might want to get it checked out. If I recall right, the onboard mic should work fine.

Test it out in an application like Skype or something to see if its only when playing or if its really busted.
