I have some old Apple speakers that came with a G4 cube. I hooked them up to my MBP and they didn't work, is there any way to make them work with the MBP? Do I need a powered hub or will they just not work?

Thanks,
-Eli.

They SHOULD work.

If you give me 3 hours, I'll be home from work. I have a Cube and a Macbook Pro, and I will try the speakers on the Macbook Pro for you.

Make sure they are selected in your sound control panel as your output device. Intel OS X may simply just not have the right drivers. I know the iSub does not have drivers under Intel OS X.

I just switched the output in the sound preferences. They work, although they aren't very loud and they sound sort of muffled, any tips of what to do for that?

Thanks again!

Man, those cube speakers were nice. (How I wish I had a Cube to mess around with. Such a great computer, if not overpriced and underpowered..)

Then again, you can buy nice speaker systems for under $50 for your computer, which will probably give you far more base and better sound quality.

Just something to think about.

Didn't the Cube and the lampshade iMac have an output jack that fed extra current or something?

The cube's speakers had to be plugged directly into the cube because of the power requirements. They didn't have a special output jack.

Yeah, I know I could easily get something way better, but I like how small the speakers are, and I really like the older style apple components. Aesthetically these speakers fit in perfectly with the 23inch cinema HD display I plan on purchasing soon.
