Yeah, when you travel the speed of light, saving a few mm is a REAL advantage.... 
I'd like to hope a PB G5 is not too far away, but this is all speculation.

PowerBook G5 by September. The sooner the better!
G4 is stagnant. G3 (even 750VX) won't be for PowerBooks. It's either G5, or watch the PC laptops fly by on Centrino 2.

Speculations about Powerbooks are as useful as speculations about earthquakes. We know they are coming. We just don't know when yet so all of this worrying is moot. Here's a prediction. Sometime in the future, Apple will release a G5 Powerbook. Then announce a G6 chip. Then release a G6 Tower. Then a G6 Powerbook.
Buy what you need for your current needs.

Electrons, or more properly, electric charges, in electronics travel far slower than the speed of light. I don't know in what realm they travel, but it's nowhere near the speed of photons - electrons have to transfer from atom to atom.

In any case, it would be nice if the PowerBook G5 had similarly eyepopping stats as the first PM G5. If IBM's successful with making 2.2, 2.4, and 2.6 GHz procs for the PowerMac, it wouldn't surprise me if the PowerBooks get single (duh! excepting amazing reduction in power draw) 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 GHz G5s, with similar system setup to the first PM G5s.
High end model PB G5 (late 2004)
17" widescreen display - come on, it can't get any bigger!
2.0 GHz G5 with 1/2 effective frontside bus
2 user-accessible (or 2 user-upgradeable and 2 on opposite side) DDR slots (PC3200) for 2GB max

September is a long way off. PowerBooks are gonna look pretty dated if they're still on 1.33 to 1.42 GHz G4.
This G5 speculation is relevant. I don't want to lay out over $2,000 on a PowerBook G4 with the real possibility of a Powerbook G5 within a year.

Oh yes, because we all know the market needs to consider existing users as well as new ones.
Not really. Apple has to move on, and until the date that they do, they have to continue selling a product. And guess what, G5 comes after G4, and one day the switch will happen. The new G5 Powerbooks will in no way make G4 Powerbooks all of a sudden stop working, nor will it cause them to slow down.
I bought my G4 Powerbook fully aware that one day Apple will upgrade it. I don't care, because I bought what I wanted now, and have a machine now that does work I need done. If a G5 Powerbook comes out, thats great, since it means progress. The more they advance, the bigger my upgrade in two years will seem.
