I have a 7100 with a Sony VGA monitor connected with an adapter to convert the VGA to Apple monitor plugs. When I got the adapter, there was a code on the accompanying paper to set the jumper switches. Well, in the middle of moving my office around, certain things were lost, and those jumper settings were mysteriously reset to 1 all across the board (there are ten jumper switches in all). My question is: Is there a standard setting for this type of adapter that will let me use a VGA monitor with this computer? I don't know if it's specific to the adapter itself. I don't think it would be specific to the monitor as there were no special codes for Sony monitors. I remember that much.
Can any help or lead me in the right direction for help?
Thanks,
Michael

I have a Sony monitor with a 10-dipswitch adaptor. These may or may not be the settings for your setup, but I will quote what the accompaning paper says:

640x870 @ 75Hz Dipswitch# 2, 4, 9, 10 set to ON.
832x624 @ 75Hz (*default setting*) Dipswitch# 1, 3, 9, 10 set to ON.
1024x768 @ 75Hz Dipswitch# 1, 2, 9, 10 set to ON.
1152x870 @ 75Hz Dipswitch# 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 set to ON.
Multi-Res (up to 1920x1080) Dipswitch# 1, 4, 5, 9, 10 set to ON.
Macintosh G3 Multi-Res (up to 1600x1200) Dipswitch# 5, 6, 9, 10 set to ON.
Sync Mode:
Separate (*default*) Dipswitch# 9, 10 set to ON.
Composite Dipswitch# 8 set to ON.
Separate & Composite Dipswitch# 7, 8, 9, 10 set to ON.
Sync on Green Dipswitch# 7, 8, 9, 10 set to OFF.

Hope that helps?

Sorry for not responding sooner. I haven't had a chance to play around with it. Life happens. I will let you know when I figure it out.
Thanks for the help, though. I hope it works.

Finally! It worked. Thanks so much for your help. Who knew it would be so complicated!! I guess plug and play wasn't in their minds when this thing was designed.

It might be wise to print the above information out for safe-keeping for any future use. Glad to be of service. All Mac people help each other out in so many ways!
