I installed a new hard drive in my Powerbook Ti 15 1 GHz. Before doing so I used Carbon Copy cloaner to clone my old drive on an external hard drive (it turned up as a "sparseimage" if that might be the source of my troubles?).

After partitioning the new drive and installing OS X 10.4, I'm now trying to use Restore in Disk Utility. I select my cloned drive as sourse and my internal HD as destination and hit restore. After prompting me for the admin password I get the following message: "Restore Failure - You must authenticate in order to restore."

I can't find any info on what this means or what I'm supposed to do. Does anyone know what is going on?

I think you may have had File Vault turned on in the orginal hard drive. Go to System Preferences --> Security and turn it off. Try Carbon Copy again.

Nope, that's not it. I'm going to put the old drive back in, redo CCC and try it again.
