I have a website created by a professional designer. The files are in php.

I am looking for a good editor that will help me edit these php files.

Can someone suggest a good editor where i can see the actual web page, click on it to view the code behind and then make the changes.

PHP is a server-side scripting language. It works in conjunction with HTML to deliver content, or to process data that is associated with web pages. There aren't visual editors for PHP, but likely you will be able to edit the HTML within the pages using a WYSIWYG editor such as Dreamweaver or Taco.

Is there any easy way to strip the php code. And then after editing the HTML part (I have used NVU before),and add back the php script.

I'm not familiar with NVU, but you shouldn't have to remove the code, the editor should just ignore it because it's not an HTML tag.

Chances are, the PHP is a part of the page rendering of that page. Your best bet is to install PHP on your local machine, and view it from your local web server. Not too hard to do.

The fact that macs already come with php complied on the computer and all they need it activating and enabled in sharing prefs..

Google around for setting up php server on a mac.. Very easy to do.. Much harder to upgrade the php (even more when the person making the nice programs for mac doesn't make php5 for 10.3)

Yeah, upgrading Unix infrastructure is a PITA on the Mac. Software like MacPorts makes things easier, but having to plan a way for your own installed bits to coexist with Apple's installed bits can be a bit of a pain, particularly if you'd like to continue using Apple's GUI tools.

There is PHP Studio, though if you have an Intel Mac, it isn't Universal yet.

Marc Liyanage has put together a good PHP package with an OS X installer. I recommend that myself.

Final word from the posts, there may not be good php editors, since it is a server side script, its better to set up a php local host server and test it out.

I have a freelancer who has written the code, my work is just to correct content,may be some basic html stuff, like href etc,

I am sticking to NVU for my needs.

I still have a big web app question, i have posted it as a separate thread.

Your expert advise will be really appreciated.
