and just to fuel the flames of a religious debate -- "etc" is pronounced "et-see"

Hmm, that's a war i'm not familiar with. Any idea how the opposition pronounces etc?

usr= unix system resources
i've never heard that one before.

i always thought it was /usr because that's where the majority of userland (vs kernel, device, system config) files were located.

Here's a second vote on both the pronunciation of etc as "et-see" and that usr is derived from "Unix System Resources".

here in dopey old england, I've heard 'etc' prnounced as 'ekt'
personally, I always say 'et cetera' but I'm a pedant, so�
