It seems that the boards have gotten particurly nasty lately. I know at times I have gotten a bit heated in some of my discussions with others. It appears that like most things in life there are those who love X, those who hate X and those who are somewhere in between. That's all good.

It seems the problem is that there is this tendency for the people on the two sides to unfairly characterize each other (i.e. those who love osx are fanatics who blindly follow Steve Jobs and attack anyone who would dare attack osx and those who have a complaint or are disappointed with osx are whiners and nay sayers, and on and on.)

Well I enjoy a good debate as much as anyone, but ad hominem attacks and name calling don't really add to the discussion.

So I pledge:
1) I will refrain from personal attacks on others.
2) I will refrain from name calling. (I won't call others whiners or fanatics or (stick your favorite in here)
3) I will respect people's rights to their own opinions no matter how different from my own.
4) I will discuss issues with others based on these principles and the common courtesy everyone deserves.

Anyone else willing to take the pledge?

I am certainly willing to take this pledge. I'd also love to see something in there about troll posts.

However, I agree with Kosmo. Those other rat-bastards are going to be a problem.

Ya, smash apart those bitching rat-bastard trolls, put them on fire and make them swallow their comments until they can not swallow no more, then push them down their throat until they never ever will be able to whine!

I kind of figured they would be especially since those idiots' opinions aren't worth a darn.

Don't you just LOVE that phrase : [b] Rat-Bastards[/b}

Got a nice ring to it... very 'Sopranos'

Hash, I think you secretly love OS X. Go buy a new G4 and really get into it...you won't regret it, I swear.

I wish they would add back system soundsets though. Someone mentioned having the genie effect go 'whoosh' and things like that, it would be cool to have....

Hash, a new G4 will unlease all the creative powers you have pent up inside you, my boy. It will set you free... GIGAFLOPS of computations...imagine the power you would posess.

Personally, if Apple releases Dual 1Ghz machines in July I'm gonna swipe my wife's AMEX card and buy one, and worry about paying for it later

Ya know, a true fact here: I still have all the plastic sticky paper on my Dual 450. Is that sick, or what?? I'm a sick rat-bastard...

I'll ditto what Scott said. This forum moves too fast to hit all the threads. (Don't I know it ... yeesh! ). So emails are much appreciated because sometimes I don't notice; I've gotten a few emails before and they really help.

As for the pledge ... as you can figure, Scott and I took the pledge a while ago.

Pledge to give up barbarism and join civilization? I think some of these folks have yet to catch on that "... the secret is to bang the rocks together (D. Adams)."

But the rest of us can maintain a civil keyboard, I'm sure. At least through WWDC...

If I were you I'd wait a bit longer. The best time to buy a mac is MWSF.

Lord K, life is tooooo short to wait till MWSF... I like buying in the summer so I can get over the shock before the Christmas buying season starts... kinda hard to tell the kids I can't afford something they want for Christmas because I'm saving for a new machine in January...

I only wish MW would come back to Boston since New York is 5 hours away I'm going, but I miss the short drive to Boston..Of course, I hated it when they divided the show into 2 palces and you have to take a shuttle to get from one to the other...

I know it's hard to wait .

I probably won't buy another G4, unless it's a quad.

Edit: If there's a new case, I might buy one at MWNY actually .

aaaaarrrrrgh!!

Kosmo - peel that stuff OFF!

I run the service dept at an AASP, and my other mission in life (apart from the one that if I told you, I'd have to kill you), is to peel off all the stickies from clients' Macs. It HAS to be done.

I bet you kept the polythene sleeve on the ADB cable that came with your LCIII, and you never fold out the keyboard foot either!!

Well, I've never done 1 or 2, always try to do 3 and have ALWAYS done 4. Now after saying that, I will still abide by the letter of the suggestion and STILL take the pledge. If anyone henceforth finds me guilty of any of those I would like to be informed about it and perhaps even be bitch-slapped for it.

FIRST, I would be happy to take the pledge, in fact i had something similar at the bottom of my last post in Kosmo's thread which had a similar tone to this one.

SECOND, I wish i had seen the pledge before I responded to the last post in Hash's thread about leaving Apple... hmmm, well, I don't want to recant what I said, so, I'll just have to live with any flames he posts back.

THIRD, KOSMO - You're going to MWNY? Very cool, what day(s) will you be there? Just going to see the exhibits, or are you going for conferences? Given our proximity (we're a state apart, barely), I had wondered if I would ever run into you at some Apple event out here.

Okay, I'm done!

Ciao!

I'm trying to arrange to stay with my friend that works for Apple (in the exectutive level ), if I can I'll be there for the entire time. I'm doing the Keynote and exhibits, probably some OS X stuff.

My main reason for going is to get a job. I'm tired of running my own business. Great place to meet people, especially if I'm hanging with an Apple executive.

Of course if he reads this post I probably blew it (Sorry Ed)...

Apple NEEDS me, whether they know it or not

Great, i hope you keep up witht he other thread in here about trying to get the MacNN people together somewhere during the week. I'm doing the Pro-track and while I'm not tired of running my own business, I'm hoping to have landed a new job with Apple by then. If I can ever discern what they're doing with hiring for the stores, that is!

Well, i hope to see you there.. an informal introduction to your Apple exec. friend wouldn't be bad either.. LOL!

I think this goes a little too far; I'm not going to make a pledge I know I cannot keep. However, I will pledge the following:

1) I will refrain from personal attacks on others. This does not mean that I will not defend myself if attacked, however.
2) I will refrain from name-calling without good cause. This does not mean I will not call someone out for being a whiner or zealot. It does, however, mean that when I do, I will state exactly why I do so, so that any misunderstandings can be corrected. I'm more than willing to admit that I'm wrong sometimes.
3) I will respect people's rights to their own opinions no matter how different from my own. However, I expect to be treated in kind.
4) I will discuss issues with others based on these principles and the common courtesy everyone deserves. That means just what it says.

I can pledge that. I hope it'll do.

I'm in. I agree, not all OS X users are Steve worshippers, and those who prefer OS 9 are not old fashioned and backwards. Don't forget that OS X vs OS 9 is Mac vs Mac, even though some people act as if it was Mac vs Windows.
