hi,
four weeks ago i bought a new powerbook 12"
no it seems the whole case is warped...
the pb does not sit even on a desk...

1st question :

how come ?

2nd question:

can i get a new pb or will apple insist on repairing this one ?
it would feel strange to have a basically new book alreay in repairs

thanks

1) often because it's been put in a backpack with lots of books and not protected

2) repair the case most likely, but it'll be good as new

well i always carry it in a neopren cover and that in a bag (no books...)
but i don't carry it around much and i usually take good care.
could the heat also be a problem ?

Are you sure its the pb thats warped? Or is the desk not perfectly flush?

Based on your usage it doesn't sound like any of that would cause the case to warp.

the case is definately warped.
it jiggles on a glass table and i checked it also on a marble plate...
maybe it was there from the beginning and i really didn't notice, because i was so consumed up with work

I was under the impression that the underside of PB's where not totally even. I though PB's had a slight curve underneath to promote better cooling.

my PB came with a slight wobble on the near right corner. i pressed down on it while holding the other side up, (very gently) and now it's level. granted it was only about 1 mm off, but it worked.

If you are referring to the 12" wobble, search the forum for wobble. This has been discussed since the first one. As I mentioned in a post once, gently twisting the bottom case usually helps with this and won't hurt anything. The aluminum in the case is slightly flexible, so a gentle twist helps.

I know they look very trendy but I wish Apple would drop these Al Powerbooks and go back to black plastic casings. I had a chance to use a ThinkPad T41 a few weeks back and I was very impressed with the build quality when compared to my Al book, it felt a lot more durable.

Boo.. Apple should never go back to a plastic casing for the Powerbook line. The past Ti and current Al casing make the powerbook lineup.

The outer casing of PB's is not only trendy.. the material serves a purpose. I hate it when PC's are compared to Apple products.

On my rev. B 12" PowerBook, the aluminum cover attached to the battery was warped. I removed the battery, adjusted the cover, and reinstalled the battery: no more wobble.

throw it at the ground and see if it catches on fire, then you will know if the case is made of magnesium.

ok, that's Pure magnesium. pure metals are never used to produce commercial products, only their alloys. titanium alloy, magnesium alloy, aluminum alloy. so burning the thinkpad surface won't make it burst into flames. LOL.

Thats a funny execution for a pc... LOL. I saw a video where some kid vented his anger on a broken Lime green iBook with a paintgun. That video reminded me of it.
