What I would love is for Apple to release a drive that will read, write, and rewrite ALL current standards of optical disk.
I was disappointed when Apple dropped DVD-RAM. Such a useful standard, but made impractical by the stupid trays! Grr.

So, let's see, how many standards would my hypothetical SuperDrive 2 have to support...
CD-ROM
CD-R
CD-RW
DVD-ROM
DVD-RAM
DVD-R
DVD-RW
DVD-RW+
DVD-LT

Any others? Ideas?

DVD-R for General Media
DVD-R for Authoring
(whatever the difference is, I think it's something to do with ::shock:: copy protection)

{edit}
DVD-VIDEO would be nice

I would like to see support for dual layer support to get 9.4 gigs!!!

Then I could fit more than an hour to 1.5 hours of decent quality video on a disk

Ooooo and make it burn DVD-R at 8x's and CD-R at 16, and CD-RW at 8, and DVD-RW at 4 x's.

I just found out that the current superdrive can do DVD-RW

me = stupid

DVD-VIDEO is some other kind of format. DVD-ROM is all you need to watch and read DVDs (including movies).

Dual layer would be awesome. It'll happen - sooner or later.

Ah... Laser Disc would be nice. Of course they'd have to figure out some fancy way to get that big old 11" disc in the drive. Hmmm...
