This is EXACTLY what Apple needs to do to put Mike back in his place. Get into these schools and get aggro about pricing, software, and support. I hope to God this deal goes through.

Excellent news. Apple is serious about this s|-|it.

Alright...I'm jealous...a free iBook? Man, when I was in school, we had a teacher that would charge us a dime for a pencil if we forgot a writing utensil

Excellent deal for all involved.

This is happening everywhere, haven't you noticed? Not necessarily Macs, but laptops for teachers and students. Isn't that great? The rich suburban kids get something nice for free because of the generous corporate donations.

It's not only rich, suburban kids. Students at an urban high school in my area were recently given laptops as a result of some corporate donation or grant or something. Sorry I can't provide more details, but I remember reading about it in the paper a couple years ago. I think they were even PowerBook G3's!!

Some of the money comes from taxes their parents pay... it's not all "Free" for the students.
