Has anyone ever come across this problem?
I am noticing pauses in a number of things, mostly in typing - when I am typing fast, the letters don't appear on the screen with each keystroke, but come up in bursts after a number of keystrokes. This happens no matter what the app - Eudora, MS Word, MSIE, etc
The weird thing is, when running MACAST and looking at the plugins and the scrolling title of the MP3, it seems that a similar thing will happen - the graphics animation and the scrolling text will be smooth, but are punctuated with pauses in relatively regular intervals.
I tried disabling some extensions, but to no effect - maybe I haven't found the right one yet. My machine is a Power Computing PowerCenter Pro, with OS 9.0.4, 128 mb RAM. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tyler

this sounds like the kind of behaviour you get if there is something processor-hungry running invisibly in the background. try downloading Peek-A-Boo. it is a (shareware) process manager utility. after you install it, open it and it will tell you everything that your computer is doing, how much memory each process takes, and how much processor time it takes. this should enable you to identify the source of the problem.
download peek-a-boo here: http://clarkwoodsoftware.com/peekaboo/pab15.sit
if this doesn't find it or you can't disable whatever is stealing your processor cycles, post again.

That worked pretty well - PAB is pretty sweet. Turns out it was my control strip extension - after I found that out, I went and looked in the modules folder - so much junk in there that I never knew about. Trashed a bunch of powerbook modules, other random junk, and everything is working so much smoother now.
Thanks,
Tyler

And another thanks for the peekaboo note.
I notice this commonly when a browser is in the background and is automatically refreshing a page - which of course keeps the cpu busy.
