just signed up, having a few problems:

Managed to sign up and upload a 32k file, but the upload speed was extremely slow, 2k a minute, the rest of my system was also almost brought to a halt. I now have an idisk icon on my desktop, clicking on it to add more stuff tells me 'the shared disk .. cannot be opened because the server is no longer connected.' (how do I delete this icon anyway) fairly Mac literate, but filesharing, servers and webstuff is a bit new. Perhaps the Mac server is down, but there is no notification on apples site.
Ohh,.. temporarily using AOL, OS9.1 .

To get rid of it, put it in the trash. I'm surprised it's still on your desktop after you disconnected, though. Have you tried restarting? Is it still on there? If so, you may have made an alias of the icon and that's what's on the desktop--although if that's the case, then double clicking on it should bring up a dialogue that asks you for your password.

As for speed--no, iDisk is not speedy. The faster your internet connection, the faster will iDisk work, but even with my DSL connection, which usually gives me at least 60 KB/sec downloads, it's pretty slow.

The reason it's sooooo damn slow is because Apple decided to use AppleShare as the protocol for the sharing, as opposed to true TCP/IP.

Had it been real TCP/IP, it would be MUCH faster.

Hopefully Mac OS X will bring some sort of speed up with the iDisk.

iDisk is pretty slow, and especially slow if the Apple servers are busy (like nights and weekends). I have a really fast cable modem and iDisk is still slow and the speed varies from sort of slow to snail slow depending on how crushed the Apple servers get. At least it's free and will be supported (and hopefully, improved) in OS X.
