I have a mysterious problem on a PPC 5500 under OS 8.1.
I get the PPP connection without any problem, but it's not possible to open a site with any of my browsers (NC4.5, IE4.5, iC1.8) (no proxies installed) I thought it'd may be an Open Transport problem. So I removed the OT extensions and reinstalled 8.1. Didn't work. Any idea?

the strangest things happen with internet issues when your Internet Preferences get corrupted.

if all of your browsers have the same problem, likely you need to delete your Internet Preferences and restart and reset them.

Once reset, it might be a good idea to make a copy of the Internet Pref's file and keep it handy...

and oh yes, MacTCP DNR is a troublesome file... it sometimes needs to be deleted... upon restart MacOS will generate a new copy of it. (if not, then get a copy of it from your MacOS CD's System Folder)

It is also possible that you are no longer pointing to a valid domain name server (DNS). Try using a web browser to open http://140.186.123.168
If that works and http://www.macnn.com
doesn't work, then your DNS entries are wrong or the DNS you are pointing to is broken.
