im to lazy to download or get OS 9.1 sent to me so im wondering if i can use a friends powerbook system software cd that came with her powerbook g4 to install 9.1 on my g4 tower? are ther difrences between the os for towers and laptops?

You'll typically get a message to the effect of "this OS can only be installed on the machine it shipped with". I don't understand- it's less work to click the DL links than type that message. Even on a modem, start it up in the evening and it should be there by morning.

To install Mac OS off of a restore CD for a different model...

1) Insert the CD,
2) Navigate to Configurations --> Disk Images (I think)
3) Mount the disk image
4) Copy over the system folder from the disk image to your hard drive.
5) Bless the new system folder.
6) Voila!

I used my old iMac's software restore CD to get OS 9 onto quite a few other computers, so I know it works. And I don't see any reason why it shound't work w/ OS 9.1 & a PBG4 CD.
