I hate these top 5 things because mine changes constantly but this week I have mostly been listening too:

1) Kyuss - One of the best bands in the world, its disgraceful how half of the QOTSA's fans haven't heard of them.

2) The Pixies - Surfa Rosa

3) Massive Attack - Mezzanine, Dissolved Girl has been played over 70 times now according to iTunes

4) Mars Volta - Been listening to them in order to get i nthe mood for when i see them live on the 22/1.

5) UNKLE - Both their albums have been spinning alot recently.

Favourable mentions to: Sigur Ros, GBYE!, Silver Mount Zion, Glassjaw, and David Holmes song Sugarman!

Tool - Salival has got it moments (no quarter, pushit etc). Funky rhythm...

APC - In the same vein as Tool, the ethereal haunting nature of 13th Step is mindblowing

Incubus - Only recently got into them, good stuff... interesting to see how their new album sounds.

Yann Tiersen - Soundtrack to Amelie got me into his work, beautiful music...

Souad Massi - great voice, brilliant melodies shame I don't understand a word she's singing because I'm sure the lyrics are amazing!

DJ Shadow - not really an electronica/dance fan but you can't deny the sense of the rhythm this guy has...

(Yes I know that's 6)

OK Songs:

These change all the time but (in no order):

Games People Play - Alan Parsons Project
Angel Song - Silence 4
Vitamin - Incubus
No Quarter - Tool
Billy Davies Daughter - Stereophonics
"I'm Captain Chaos! Been in the force long...?"

Sorry - that cracked me up. Reminded me so much of "This week oi 'ave mostly bin eatin' (insert strange foodstuff here)" from Jesses Diets from the Fast Show.

(I doubt it's been shown in America/anywhere but the UK)

Yeah, you are wrong

It's a woman with an American accent saying it quite clearly. Well, clearly on the AAC I have of it on my iPod. I didn't even need to turn the speakers up much to hear it... She does say it quite quickly, but not too quickly as to be hard to understand. It starts at exactly 3 minutes and 33 seconds into the song.

glenn gould

first two because i like _good_ jazz. heh. last two because i'm a classical nerd in many ways, and glenn gould's bach and argerich's wild and out of control concertos stir something inside of me.

Huh. Quite clearly, eh? I tried to be all polite-like, but like I said there is NO WAY she says all that it just doesn't fit. So I looked it up. Looks like you're dead wrong. As I mentioned...I suggest better headphones. Listen to it again. Your version is an urban myth.

One day, son, you'll learn better than to argue about music with me.

Taken from the Pink-Floyd.org FAQ:
"Where did the speaking voices on *Dark Side of the Moon* come from?"

People. Lots of people. Just like you and me -- sort of. What the band did was this: they prepared a bunch of questions, questions like "When was the last time you thumped someone?" "Why are you frightened of dying?" and "Were you in the right?" Then they took people off the streets, out of other recording sessions, and from within the Abbey Road staff, sat them down in front of a microphone, and handed them a random card, instructing them to say whatever comes to mind. Answers like "I've been mad for ucking years, absolutely years" and "I don't know [if I was in the right], I was really drunk at the time" made it on to the album.

"The Great Gig in the Sky"

At about 3:32 into the song, there is a background voice. It's of a woman, and the what she says is "I never said I was frightened of dying." Presumably, the question she'd been asked was "Why are you frightened of dying?" and this holds for the other voices on that song, as well. A common misinterpretation of this phrase is "If you can hear this whisper, you're dying." But that's not what it says. Period.

1. David Bowie
2. Smashing Pumpkins
3. Rage Againts the Machine
4. Nirvana
5. Tie between Brimstone (local band), Bob Marley, Jeff Buckley and Coldplay

The order kinda changes round from month to month...but Bowie will always be the best by a country mile...which reminds me, I'm going to his concert in a month and 2 days

No idea why you thought I was being impolite...

Anyhoo - listening to it again, it does say "I never said I was frightened of dying", but I don't see how that's all that much shorter than "If you hear this little whisper, you're dying" - both have 8 words (and I reckon 11 syllables).

I presumed you were saying that nothing was said at all, so I just listened for some talking and presumed it was what I had read. Apologies.

And I wasn't using headphones - that's why I said I didn't have to turn my speakers up much...

Not that it matters, I just have no idea why you took that tone in your reply .
Anyway - well done, I stand corrected.

My favourite bands and songs change as often as the wind, so I won't mention any of them (as I'd likely leave some out).

Some bands I've only RECENTLY come to appreciate, however, are as follows.

Zombie Ghost Train
Bubble Vicious

Saw the two of them the other night in concert, and they're just incredible... truly. Love 'em. Both.

If you're in Sydney, head to the Annandale Hotel on the 21st to see Bubble Vicious. They rock.

You're changing it. You said "If you CAN hear this little whisper, you're dying." There was no hard "c" to be heard, and that's too many syllables anyway.

In any case, I was just being appropriately arrogant. It's good in these situations....

When I was 14 my favorite band, perhaps the very focus of my existance, was Iron Maiden. They just created a whole damn world for me to fall into. I could stare at their Eddie filled album covers for hours. I listened to all their stuff over and over and over.
Then something happened. I got a girlfriend, discovered other kinds of music, like old R&B, Soul,Reggae, then Jazz, then Drum and Bass, Dub,Garage, House, Techno. My interest in Rap ( dormant since Raising Hell) came back with a vengeance, then came foreign music in other languages, African suff, Latino, Italian and French music.

Since then I haven't had a "favorite" band. The more I realize how much great music out there, the less I want to keep listening to the same old stuff.
