so I went on mapquest.com tonight to look up directions. after i got my directions i left the page open. my temps immediately shot up and my fans turned on super mode. the temps were reading like 83*C

as soon as i closed that window the temps came down. i tested it again and the temps went right back up. but if i stayed at the mainpage then the temps didnt change. it was only after looking up directions.

so i'm just wondering if its my computer alone or is it everyone? does it have something to do with the way mapquest displays the map?

my specs are
2.0ghz core duo
2gb RAM
i was running off the adapter at the time.

Yeah for some reason mapquest will run both cores at like 60-70%, not sure why, only happens when a map is displayed

Agreed. Flash in web pages consumes ungodly amounts of CPU.

I suggest ditching MapQuest for Google Maps.

Yes - Why are you using MapQuest? Google Maps is much better IMHO.

Google maps is prettier, but I don't like it better.

Flash or youtube dosen't eat up CPU as much as mapquest though.

yeah mapquest immediaely made my cpu jump to about 60%, go from 63 degrees to 80+, and fans turn on - first time i've noticed them. No mooing, just a very faint and otherwise unnoticible fan spin.

i usually use google maps but this time mapquest gave me a shorter route by 40 miles.
i usually just check all the map sites when looking for directions.

so this is probably a flash related thing?
