I wonder why the Black mattes are not nearly as popular as the white? Do you think the issue has to do with the black finish being more expensive? If you ask me the white one is nicer looking, it looks newer than the black one, the white color goes better with the IR remote and power cord, and is more appealing. If I really wanted a black mac i would spend the extra 200 bucks.

The Setup is great, I wouldn't care exactly which color or style the tile was, I just think tile allows you to glide like a wood floor without scratching it up, so in a way it is basically the only easy and good looking floor type that doesnt require a chair mat.

No: I am not obsessed with floors.

No: I am not very smart like that usually.

Yes: I had fruity pebbles for breakfast today.

Also: The room is cool because you have so many windows with light coming in, plus there is no windows begind you, so not only can no one see what your looking at, but if there was a sniper or something like that, you could see at night if they were trying to get in.

Sorry, it's the pebbles talking.

Why would a sniper try to get into the house? Wouldn't they, you know, be sniping you?

I wouldn't worry about it. From what I've seen the 'discoloration' issue is still FUD. Many of those images from the above site look borderline fake. It would help if any of them could take a decent photo that wasn't out of focus or ultra-grainy. Rather poor excuses for Mac users if you ask me.

Just got mine!

The speed is simply amazing - it's taking me some time to get used to the keyboard, though.

Also grabbed a 2GB black Nano while I was there (hey, it'll be free).

hey dude i'm in the same boat. don't dwell on it... soon there will be a replacement for the nano, at which point you would start lusting after that. there's no end to consumerism, you have to just cut it off at a certain point

I personally like the white one. Even if the black and white were same price I would get the white mainly because the black looks to much like a pc. The white makes the apple look a bit more hi tech.

Went to the apple store today, Im trying to decide between a blackbook or a 15" macbook pro... Im having a tough time. I want the pro because I want to be able to run photoshop and I want a bigger screen (ive been using a 12" iBook as my primary machine for the past 2 years), the thing is, the blackbook just looks so cool and I love the keyboard, magnetic latch, and how solid the machine feels. The macbook pro just doesnt feel as strong and sturdy.

Hmm, does Photoshop depend that much on the 3D acceleration of the GPU? I thought it didn't. In my understanding PS should run similar on both (unless you get the 7200 RPM option for the HDD on the MBP). OTOH PS might profit from the additional VRAM on the MBP. Until CS3, PS will run crap on both actually, since it really suffers a lot from Rosetta emulation compared to native apps.

and I want a bigger screen (ive been using a 12" iBook as my primary machine for the past 2 years),
The MB offers 30% more pixels than the iB, the MBP offers another 27% more pixels than the MB. The MB actually has an even higher resolution than the iB had.

the thing is, the blackbook just looks so cool and I love the keyboard, magnetic latch, and how solid the machine feels. The macbook pro just doesnt feel as strong and sturdy.
From my experience (I own and use both) the MB is indeed sturdier than the MBP.

If you don't necessarily need it now, you could think about waiting for the next MBP rev (likely Aug/Sep). It might get one or the other nice MB feature (latch design).

Funny you say about waiting. After looking around and doing some research, I think I am going to wait. Ill atleast wait until WWDC, I still have to save up around $800 before I can make sure that my laptop has everything that I want and need. I dont want to have to upgrade for a while. When I bought my ibook I settled for an ibook over a powerbook, and I settled for a 30 gig HD, and now, the 30GB HD is FULL and I really wish I would have gotten a 15" powerbook. So Im going to wait until I can buy a strong and sturdy macbook pro 15" with a glossy screen, and magnetic latch.

I normally don't recommend waiting, because you can go on waiting forever, but in your case you might be more happy with the next rev of the MBP. And since you said you're a PS user, you're basically waiting for CS3 anyway.

In terms of usability was there any difference between 13.3" and 15.4" screens?.I currently have a 20 " imac and i want a notebook down the line.if i brought a 13.3" it would probably be in sleep mode the whole time connected to another display so im just tryiing to gather whats usable.

PS does not currently depend on the GPU for anything. I say currently, because theres no telling what CS3 will have in terms of using available hardware.

My current setup...

MacBook Pro 15" 2.16GHz, 100GB 7200 RPM HD, 2GB RAM
Apple 30" Cinema display
HK Soundsticks (USB version)
The external optical drive to the lefthand side is a Pioneer DVR-108 pulled from my old G5.
Apple keyboard & mighty mouse
5G 60GB iPod
The other iPod dock is for my 3G 20GB iPod (currently in the car).
The MBP is sitting on an Antec laptop cooler w/ USB-powered fans. Keeps the MBP nice and cool when docked.

File server in the basement (not pictured) is a 1.4GHz Gigabit PowerMac G4, 4x160GB HD in RAID 0+1 (hardware striped 320GB RAID w/ software mirror)
attached to an Adaptec FireWire 800 PCI card, networked via gigabit ethernet.

I love my Mac Mini (Power PC) but after I picked up my sister's new 20" iMac Intel Core Duo...I was jealous and picked this up...!!!

13.3" Mac Book "Ultimate" Apple Yorkdale 1GB RAM with 20GB more instead of 60GB HDD

Paid $1515 after Student Discount with the free* iPod Nano...I would've upgraded to the iPod U2 Video BUT I'm selling this and the Mini. I probably would keep both if I didn't love Movies and picked up Toshiba's HD-A1 HD-DVD player ealier this month :cheesygri

btw, after reading several thread on it...I picked up the 3-Year Apple Care...why not, I was able to use my brother's Student Discounts

to those of you with a glas desktop surface. I am looking to get a new desk, and I am interested in a glass surface area.

Do you like having a glass surface? Where did you find yours?

If you are OCD at all; please stay away from a glass surface desks. Of course, someone bought me a smoked glass surface desk and it drives me insane.

Oh my goodness the fingerprints and dust. I ended up having to use a table cloth just to stop from going crazy.

On a side note, they are really nice looking..
