My G3 400 powerbook was having problems starting up in various partitions, and would only restart after pushing the reset button in the back panel.

So as I tried to reinstall OS 9 onto one of the partions, a message popped up about a Cache Memory error. Looking at the system profiler, the L2 cache is listed as "not present."

So here I am stuck in OS X (the default first partition OS) unable to boot back into 9. Classic works fine, but I still need to go into 9 for some apps.

Is there any fix to this other than sending it into apple? Warranty is out, and I'm getting a new powerbook just after mid-year. Actually, I checked that the RAM and other components are in there snug...

ugh...

Found this off a Mac troubleshooting site:

RAM or cache diagnostic error

You see a message that a problem was detected with RAM or cache memory

* If you see this type of error message, please take your computer to an Apple-authorized service provider. Ignoring this condition could lead to random errors and failure that could result in you losing data. (Although the error message may not reappear, the problem detected during the computer's self-check probably has not gone away.)
