Hi Source,
Can you please give us some kind of idea of what the hell you mean by "3D program?" Your question is vague to the point of being meaningless.

Is this the nice thread?

Please keep in mind the ambiguously selective general understandings we've all agreed upon...

Nope. But
Lightwave
Maya
Cinema 4D
are, among others.
Nicest (by far) of the bunch IMHO (but no animation abilities yet): modo 201

Adobe Acrobat 3D will be nice....that is, once it's made available for the Mac.

SketchUp was, at one point, a good Mac-first 3D program. Ever since Google bought them, however, we've gone to second-class citizen status; it will come out "Real Soon Now".

There are lots! Depends on your price range. Freeware like Blender to Pro commercial apps lie Lightwave and Maya. You also might be interested in ZBrush!

What are you wanting to do in 3D? As well as the all-in-one packages, there's a few that focus on specific areas, such as modeling, animation, rendering, etc.
My personal fav. is XSI, but sadly not available on the Mac. Maya is an excellent package, and modo if you're wanting to mostly model and texture.

With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

Don't remind me... having XSI on OS X would be oh-so-wonderful (if it was well-ported, that is).

Definitely! I keep holding out for it, but I know the guys at Softimage are waiting to see if there's enough demand for it. It's the only software I need Windows for.
It's such a powerful bit of software, but extremely elegant (one of the better pieces of software out there).

http://www.apple.com/shake/
Was the dancing yob car made with Shake? I wouldn't be proud of that if I were Apple.
