HI all again...okay one of the things apple told me to do to fix the non-working ethernet thing is to wipe the entire harddrive and re-install OSX...okay this is the second time I have done this (ibook 14'1" 800 mhz combo)...okay the really stupid part..during setup (name, age, gender etc...and internet prefs) the lan link light is on and it registers with apple (blows me away it works again!!!!) and then it boots into X for the first time (alls well so far)...osx automatically brings up software update and I say yes and it dloads all the freakin new updates (10.2.6, imovie etc hour later etc) and it asks to reboot..I say yes okay please work this TIME!! and nope not a freakin light comes on, no stinking ethernet...nutthingahhhh! is it something I dloaded from apple???makes me phink I installed a bad apple update..me think and reminds me of the old firmware apple memory loss days of yore..any help would be great if anyones thinks this is software at all not hardware (because if it is software apple won't cover the cost...suprised? nope...

I'm guessing that you are new to message boards. Try keeping all of your posts on this subject in the thread that you originally created...

When I first installed OS X on my precious I could not get ethernet nor airport to work. Strangely when I booted into OS 9 it worked just fine. I fussed around with internet & airport settings in OS X and finally - I think this is what worked - I created a new default.. what? network or something. Once I did that, everything suddently began to work. Go figure.
