No. Say you're connected as guest but want to access shares that you have access too that guest doesn't? Instead of unmounting shares and reconnect, you can now click the Connect as button.

I've seen the new Finder and coverflow is great for going through documents. But it doesn't work very well for going through folders. When you double-click on a folder in coverflow, the folder reverts to icon view. I think this is bad design, because it makes me feel less in control. I chose the view I liked, and I don't want that to change unless I change it.
Also, the coverflow window has two panes, coverflow on top and list view below. I wish the bottom pane could be in column view while the top pane stayed in coverflow. That would be more useful to me.

I understand exactly what the purpose of the button is for, I just think there are better ways to implement this. Read my suggestion and let me know what you think.

Sorry besson3c, it made perfect sense to me the moment I looked at it. I wouldn't advocate for change here.

So if two users have shares with identical names, how would you tell them apart at a glance?

You know how individual folders can have their own view settings? Do you think maybe when you double clicked the folder it opened the folder with it's saved view? Which could be icon view by default. If you change the view to CoverFlow for that folder and then go back and doubleclick it again, does it show CoverFlow or Icon view?

That would be really nice. I use column view. Column view with CoverFlow at the top would be really nice.

Yes. Although I was thinking more of how the wireless networks are now grouped within the menu. Previously you had to try and connect to them to see if they were open or closed.

If you are already connected to one, why would it matter if it's open or closed?

That's not the Finder, it's an Open dialog box. Why don't they stick that media section in the Finder too?

Negative. Only in Open dialogues.
I think the reasoning being that Finder is a tool to manipulate the filesystem. Opening Aperture files in Finder would lead to all sorts of UI nightmares. Anything other than open, how would you handle that? Renaming, moving, copying, deleting etc.? Since these files are not part of the normal file-system per-sé and outside manipulation would screw up the internal databases of Aperture and iPhoto, I think it's wise to leave them out of the Finder.

True, but if you elect to connect automatically to your favoured netwroks and you were doing so at numerous different locations with differing levels of security, it would just be a nice thing to know (e.g. they could stick it in brackets at the end).

Here we go as promised:
Eek, you can configure icon views in dialog boxes to look just like Windows:
http://www.erikveland.com/arkiv/images/ui/windows.png
QuickLook is unbelievably smooth, a joy to use and incredibly useful. This may prove to be THE usability improvement of Leopard overall. I do dig Spaces too, mind. Very well implemented.
But QuickLook is just awesome. Even useful for folders:
And to the guy who asked about formats, no dice for EPS:
Not for Pages documents either for that matter...but I'm sure iWorks '07/8 will remedy that. QuickLook seems to be reliant on QuickTime and the built-in text-engine (for RTF, plain text, HTML and Word) for the formats it can preview so far.
The way QL zooms it's preview up from the icon is just amazing to look at, especially when QuickLooking from CoverFlow view.
One thing that is still not growing on me however, is the dreaded menubar. Look at how jarring the CS3 toolbar is stacked up against it:

QuickLook does look very nice, and the new folder icon will be well received. Unfortunate though, that the EPS icon there indicates that they still haven't taken away that kid's demon eyes in the preview icons!

They'll have to update the icons anyway to do 512x512 versions. I'm sure they have a whole team devoted just to redo all their icons working 24x7 to get it all done by October
QuickLook is even more awesome with music:

It really is just indescribable how the new and improved Spotlight combined with one-click previews of files have sped up my regular workflow.
And spotlight is INSTANT. Searches through my 4TB of data faster than I can type, so no more complaints about the search-as-you-type being a nuisance please

And for people wanting to know what QuickTime player looks like under Dark Unified:

However this is largely irrelevant since you are going to be looking at all your movies in QuickLook from now on

Man, I hope Apple draws some crisper icons before release. Even that brand new folder icon is blurry at that size — just look at the top edge, for example.

I think thats done deliberately, as if you eyes are focussed on the front of the folder.

I don't think so. Even the front edge of the folder is blurry. The whole thing is scaled up or else hastily drawn. Zoom in if you don't believe me.

Can you Apple + Space to search with spotlight and QuickLook results in the dropdown list of results?

No matter what, though, visual cues come from shapes and colors, at least for me. Having all my folders look nearly identical at first glance would be troublesome for me. I'd definitely have to change that with Micon or something similar.

Fixinated. On the finder - Good if it runs faster, bad because it still has no tree view. I know that Mac users are quite against a real directory tree view (like what's available in Windows Explorer), but it is infinitely useful for file management. And i'm not talking about the detailed view in the Finder that shows a quasi-tree - I'm talking about a two-paned browser that has a tree view in one pane and a file list in the other. Until someone releases a truly database-driven file system (where files are anywhere on the drive and accessed through tags), I need that view of my directory structure. And unlike iTunes, which uses the standards ID3 tags of files (and I hate iTunes, but that's irrelevant here), you can't be limited to a few categories for files - so the Finder shouldn't limit you to categories that it deems worthy of organizational use.
I've been disappointed with the Finder or file browser in every release of an Apple OS that I've used - this includes 7.5, 9.x, and Jaguar, Panther, and Tiger. Accessing files quickly is key in any OS. Apple definitely hasn't figured it out yet - or, at the very least, they haven't figured out how to provide us with multiple options yet.

So is this with Photoshop having some process running in the background? I've opened CS2 on brand-new high-end machines (dual-core 64-bit workstations with four gig of RAM, etc), and it still takes awhile because of how unbelievably bloated Adobe's apps are. So I'm curious to know if lauching it from a completely unopen state is that quick, or if this requires a background process - similar to how Acrobat (at least on Windows machines) has a preloader that runs when a user first logs in, and sits in the background to more quickly load the actual Acrobat application.

Nope. Photoshop is still bloated (but much improved from CS2 nonetheless). The faster relaunch is all due to better caching-mechanisms in Leopard.

I don't usually do this, but. Me to. I DESPISE that view in Windows, almost uniformly useless. Not as much order as the 'Real' list view, and non of the room of the full icon view. Just as long as they haven't adopted the other thing for Windows with this, grouping the files and folders together when organising alphabetically.
