Ok, so the Spliffmeister has talked his way into being a DJ at a strip club for one evening. Actually, I was installing some video surveillance equipment at a local club and jokingly made a few comments about the poor job their DJ seemed to be doing. The owners asked if I could do better - and I lied and told them hell yes. They laughed because I'm a middle-aged white dude and I couldn't possibly know anything about 'afro-centric' (black) strip clubs.

Long story short, they want me to be a guest DJ this Saturday night. I'm pretty sure they expect me to fail at this endeavour - and they're right. But they don't know about my secret weapon....this huge knowledge bank called MacNN.

Help a honkey out. I need about a dozen songs that would kick ass at a strip club. Maybe a few classics from Ludacris or Li'l Jon or Usher - and some bleeding edge crunk that'll earn me some respect from the brothers. Something that hits hard like an Olde English forty ounce upside tha head.

This really means a lot to me.

thank you in advance.

Git some 70s/80s funk happening:

"Brick House" - The Commodores
"Lady Marmalade" - Labelle
"Love Gun" , "Give It To Me Baby" - Rick James
"Le Freak" - Chic
"Word Up" , "Be Yourself" - Cameo
"Funky Cold Medina" , "Wild Thing" - Tone Loc

Well, that's what I'd play, black white or indifferent.
The Lord said 'Peter, I can see your house from here.'

"Don't Cha" and "Beep" from Pussycat Dolls would suit strip clubs perfectly... it's amazing what people will buy...

I'm already quite famous. A few days ago I won 3rd place in a 'bean bag toss' competition while on a New Year's cruise on a Royal Caribbean ship. After the awards ceremony, the cruise director informed us that we were being aired worldwide on ESPN2 during some sort of football 'bowl game'. I was drunk off my ass and holding a Long Island Iced Tea while tossing the bean bags. My parents, being avid football fans and board members of their local small town Kentucky Methodist church, no doubt have already started packing their bags and selling their house in order to escape the shame I caused them.

I have no regrets, however. Because later that evening I wore my bronze medal to the dance club and, for the first time in my life, I danced. Girls half my age with incredible butts were literally fighting to buy me drinks and begging me to dance with them. It was probably the most awesome experience a person could have.

Some day I'll call my parents and act like I'm sorry about it.

heh.

Odd,

Most of the strip joints I know of, the strippers usually pick their own music to dance to.

Or are you talking about the music between acts?

Ah yes. Brickhouse

I thought I'd start off with Li'l Jon & the Eastside boys - "Yeah"

Khia - "My Neck, My Back"

Nelly - "Hot in Herre"

LL Cool J - "Headsprung"

So far I like those.

I need a slow-ish song every 3rd song or so.

Wow. This is a lot of work. Might take me a few hours to review all the suggestions.

I really appreciate the help, guys (& girls?).

Give me some time to finish my play list - and I'll report back.

Well, this club has about 12-15 girls that work on weekends. There are 4-5 girls on the stage at the same time - 4-5 working the lounge, and 4-5 taking breaks. They rotate every 3rd song.

I'll be playing all the music from 10pm until 3am - I don't think the girls have any choice in what I play. Also, there are lots of playlists programmed into their 'automatic DJ' computer thingy.

To be honest, the way the girls are treated kinda blows my mind. They have to pay to be there - and the owners assess penalties for:

being late - $20
leaving early - $20
clogging the dressing room toilet - all are charged $25
failing to pay for use of VIP area - $50

and lots more stuff, which I forget. But there's a list of fines posted in the manager's office.

After a fight between the dancers in the dressing room (involving a spray can of mace), the owner's fined the girls a combined total of $600 - and closed the club 3 hours early.

The girls seem to accept the rules and the fines, so this must be common practice.

Hey Spliff, what ship did you sail on? We've gone out on the Rhapsody of the Seas twice now, and if it weren't for bad timing (finals come at the WRONG time) we'd be on her again in April. They do know how to treat people nice!

On the subject of this thread, in all of the "adult entertainment establishments" I've ever been in, you couldn't tell WHAT the music was; it was almost all bass with only enough high end to get tinny. Yuck. You'd think they'd at least be able to reproduce that bad sax music that was popular in "adult films" years ago, but no-nothing intelligible.

Dude, you came to the wrong place. There is only one black person on MacNN (that we know of). The rest of the guys here are white people who listen to Sigor Ros and Victorian hymns.

The ship was Grandeur of the Seas, sailing to Cozumel (hurricane Wilma left her calling card) and Grand Cayman. With a very outstanding crew of 1,000+ representing 30 countries - among them were zero Americans (interesting). Nice ship, but I'd have preferred one of the larger Voyager-class vessels.

Seems the only folks taking cruises are single women and couples. I think there were 60 single guys out of 2,500 guests....and probably 1,000 single women.

On the subject of "adult entertainment establishments", I agree the sound systems aren't top-notch. But I've only been in 2 of these establishments, so my opinion isn't worth much. But then, most clubs have bad sound systems - with distorted bass. Are most people deaf?

I'm surprised no one suggested "Pour Some Sugar On Me" by Def Leppard yet. Although I don't have any "brothers" to consult with - it's a fun song to take your clothes off to.

as a Professional DJ (my second career) that has worked in 4 strip clubs throughout the years, I can tell you that you need to go to the club and watch the girls and see which ones can dance and which one cant first. THEN...find the music that closely matches the stuff the girls that CAN dance, dance to. THEN..for the girls that just cant dance and just go up there and wiggle around no matter what is playing, try to watch them and see how they move and try to find music that woud match what they do also.
also, dont forget that depending on the club owner, sometimes they want you to talk it up on the mic, you know...."o.k. guys up on the stage for 3 is violet, she'll be up there for your enjoyment, if you like what you see go up and show your appreciation...blah,, blah, blah...." Above all dont show fear, the owner and the girls will pick up on this and be on your case like wolves on a wounded lamb.
I always went into a club with this in mind,
I get a cut from what the girls make, so I have to make the girls look good and be comfortable with the music they are dancing to. If the girls dont make money, i dont get as much at the end of the night. AND above all I loved playing music and loking at naked women!

It's a hell of a job, have fun with it

MrsLarry, no offense intended. But you did indeed invite all sorts of questions with that post!

This is one reason I haven't been to a strip club in a long time: far too many of the "dancers" fall into the second category and just wiggle. And at the last one I visited, the girls all seemed to be about 85% bored with all of everything going on, whether it was customers, music, taking off clothes, whatever. Bored dancers means bored customers (except the ones that haven't seen girl skin is so long it doesn't matter).

That and I like to breathe, but the smoke levels in these clubs make that sort of impossible.

The Stripper-David Rose
The Moneymaker- Rilo Kiley
