A client has sent us files encoded in the Apple Intermediate CODEC.

We don't have Final Cut Pro.

How do we get the CODEC installed on our machine in order to be able to view the files?

I searched apple and the forumns but didn't see anything specific.

There should already be an AIC component in your Quicktime folder (MacHD > Library > Quicktime) which would allow playback of the files. Do you have the latest version of QT installed?

We're using QT Pro 7.6.6 on Max OS X 10.5.8

The AIC component is NOT in the Library/Quicktime/ folder !!

Not sure why this would be.

I almost posted that same link, but someone in the Apple forums where I found it said that that 1.0.1 version of the codec is PPC-only.

Filmo, what's your setup? PPC or Intel Mac?

I got Apple Intermediate Codec 1.2 inside Macintosh HD > Library > QuickTime. Not sure where did it come from… iLife?, Software Update?.

This one is Universal Binary.

Thanks everybody. I found AIC on my MacBook Pro, copied it over and everything now seems to work.

Not sure how it 'disappeared' from there in the first place...

The link provided by reader50 only works on older PPC macs. I had found that link separately and tried it on my Intel machine and it didn't work.

Thanks again.
