With last OS or so, comes this beyond annoying screenshot delay. For 20 years you took a screenshot and it immediately was on your desktop. Now it's 15 seconds, What is this and anyway to get rid of? Thanks.

The OS puts up a preview of the shot (in lower-right corner of main display). If you click on the preview, it opens in a mini-editor.

To disable this, command-shift-5 to open the screenshot utility. On the command bar at bottom, click "Options", then uncheck "Show floating thumbnail". Press Escape key to exit screenshot utility. From now on, screenshots will capture immediately again.

Excellent Reader!

When did that come on the scene? Putting up with it, thinking its some new annoying temporarly thing, and then hit a breaking point of annoyance. Very glad to hear it can be removed. Again : should not be a default feature unless there is some sadist enginee over at Apple.

The trend in UI lately is to over-engineer things for simplicity.

It's saving you a step, technically, by making a link to open/edit right there... but my screenshot workflow is usually to <ctrl><cmd><shift><4> and paste into photoshop anyhow... or use a plugin like PageSaver to save down a whole webpage... so not going to be useful for me.

Andi I take screenshots for 15 years, and email them, save them very useful. Never edited one once!

And I'm a photographer who know how to edit too.

They make a default feature to edit a screenshot? Ridiculous.

Many people annotate screenshots with circles, arrows, lines etc as a way to indicate edits in proofs. I myself use them to mockup websites.
