The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Might pick one up later on down the line, to plays some RPGs and because then I can use PS+ to pick up Vita games as well.

Blizzard cancels its next-gen MMO Titan after seven years | Polygon

What do you think? Maybe they don't see the current trend with MMOs as being worth the effort?

Didn't know that you had bought a Vita. Impressions?

Takes balls to say no to 7 years of work.

What specific trand are you thinking of? Seems to little old me that the MMO market is going well with Warcraft, Destiny and upcoming stuff like Elite and Star Citizen.

They were going back to drawing board already. I think they decided the idea just didn't have promise any more.

With a combination of MMO's moving to Free to Play and mobile gaming growth, I could see why they would scrap the project. Though, after sevens years is pretty nutty to just stop.

Ah, yeah FTP must be giving game-company execs nightmares. Wonder what % of players actually fork out money for stuff, and if it covers much of the costs.

I know of way too many people that play Game of War: Fire Age (iOS) that have spent in the thousands. Hell, the most common pack bought is $99.

Generally F2P works out to a lot of players paying nothing and a small subset spending through the nose.

Thousands? You don't mix in the same social circles as I.

When looking at whether to pay for Star Citizen or Elite I watched a vid where someone mentioned a mate had spent $8000 on Star Citizen and then regretted every penny once he'd played Elite.

These aren't people I personally know, just people in the game. The alliance I was in did received about four gold gifts a day at $99 a pop. The larger alliances would get between 20-30 a day. Each alliance can have up to 100 people. That is just one kingdom. There are dozens.

Xbox One’s Japanese sales go from bad to worse | Ars Technica
Earlier this month, we reported on the Xbox One's historically weak Japanese launch, which saw under 24,000 units sold in its first four days on the market. Things have gone from bad to worse in the intervening weeks, with the system selling just under 1,500 units in the week ending September 21, according to tracking firm Media Create (as reported by 4Gamer).

Since so many of us met playing this, I thought it was worth posting.
Seven years later, Halo 3 is still the best Halo campaign - NeoGAF

It's the eternal problem with this style of game. No one wants to grind, but no one wants to play regularly and let the loot come slowly (doubly so when once you max out all you have left to do is get better loot). I could agree that people who grind for loot aren't enjoying the game, but I don't think when you take away an option to grind you improve their experience in any way.

'New' 3DS launching in Australia in November. They're apparently getting it before N.America and not at a ludicrous price...

From the hand on accounts from TGS, the display is supposedly vastly improved regarding the head lock issue.

Halo 3 is by FAR not the best campaign. Halo ODST and original have it beat by a country mile.

The Halo 3 campaign would be great if it weren't for the unskippable Cortana stall spots. F*** that noise.

It wasn't just that map. Those Cortana visions happened during most of the game. Even after you rescued her, you still had that Flood dude interrupting every 2 minutes. If you cut that stuff out, the campaign would have been more enjoyable.

xHis comment went on to confirm precisely what will be included in the Plus Edition: "The difference is that you only have 10 cars and you can only race in one country (which gives you access to 5 tracks with 11 distinct variants)."
From may. Not as bad as I remembered it.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare preorders are still sluggish | GamesBeat | Games | by Jeff Grubb
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare preorders continue to track more than 50 percent behind 2013’s Ghosts, according to Cowen and Company analyst Doug Cruetz. The industry-tracking expert notes that Advanced Warfare is tracking 80 percent behind 2012’s Black Ops II. Call of Duty game regularly generate $1 billion in revenue for Activision, but Ghosts didn’t perform as well as Black Ops II. If Advanced Warfare sells worse than Ghosts, this could signify that the franchise is on a permanent decline.

Wonder if people really like the mix of present day and future tech together in a game - I know that I don't. Once people were able to control helis or AC-130s, CoD started losing its charm.

Maybe I'm just too old.

CoD is Simpsons. Looks the same, has the same name, but none of the people behind its success are there anymore. It takes some time to taper off, because habits are hard to break, but there is nothing to entice anyone new to join.

I know we all got tired of the WWII shooters back then, but there was some good there. I wouldn't mind a new one like say CoD2.

I loved CoD2, and Modern Warefare was also really good. Black Ops (both 1 and 2) had good moments but like I said player controlable aircraft <> CoD. Barebones was a good game-type in Black Ops. Didn't seem very popular though.

Seems to me that CoD is trying to become more Battlefield-like while Battlefield is trying to become more CoD-like.

There's some of that, but there's also a question of not understanding what CoD is about. This is like if all the people clamoring for an xMac somehow got to take control of iMac development and started adding slots, and suddenly the iMac is just thick and noisy. There's nothing wrong with slots - I own a gaming PC myself - but it is not what the iMac is supposed to be. If you want a gaming PC, you want a big airy case to cool things and you want that hidden under the desk to reduce fan noise further. Trying to shove that into an iMac just brings you the worst of both worlds.

So, Shadows of Mordor is really, really, really good.

It's mostly Assassin's Creed meets Batman: Arkham Asylum meets Lord of the Rings, but when the reviews started pouring in, it was clear the Nemesis system really stands out. I remember hearing about it in previews, but it sounded like another inconsequential gimmick. It's not.

Basically, there's a hierarchy of randomly-generated orc officers. When you kill one of them in combat, they drop what equates to the game's loot. But if they kill you, your undead-ish protagonist gets called out for it the next time you run into them. If you run away from battle, the orc that caused you to chicken out will taunt you and ask you if you're going to run away the next time he sees you. Their names, faces, strengths, and weaknesses are all unique, and you gain access to their location/strengths/weaknesses by interrogating lower-level orcs about their commanding officers.

I read about another instance where a regular, low-level grunt archer killed the protagonist from a tower. The kill earned the orc such prestige, he was promoted to captain. The game/combat/story stands on its own just fine, but the Nemesis mechanic is just as good as everyone is raving. It makes the game stand out.

If you're into single-player, open world, AC/Batman type games, Shadows of Mordor is awesome.
