I have to admit I was out training, so didn't see much of the match, only about the last 15 mins, and from what I've read it was a far better performance from France, with Spain only really upping the ante towards the end (and peppering the French defense?). I think the third goal was icing on the cake - game was over after the 2nd. I reckon the French played well (maybe finally coming together again after 6 years?) but am disappointed with the Spanish - again they have the talent, but obviously not the bottle.

Maybe France are peaking at the right time? I think the France v Brazil match could be a corker (I know the England v Portugal one will be a complete anticlimax).

And, your prediction for Argentina vs Germany, señor V? This should be a great game - I'm rooting for Argentina myself, but I have no predictions.

My crystal ball is cloudy on that subject...

Difficult to say.. I hope the better team wins. I root for Argentina between the two.

Ok, looks like Germany made it to the Final (unless someone thinks either Ukraine or Italy has a prayer).

If memory serves my right, Germany has never been able to beat Italy in the World Cup. And it will be an GER-ITA game. So...

That kind of logic is rubbish. They're both different teams now plus Germany plays at home - huge advantage.

That said, if Italy scores first, uh oh...

The very same teams met just three months ago, when Italy destroyed Germany with 4:1. http://www.worldcupwiki.org/index.ph...M%C3%A4rz_2006

My opinion is that Italy and Brazil are going to meet in the finals.

Yes indeed. And I don't pay too much attention to friendly matches and it was in Italy, soooo. If anything that match will be a nice little extra motivating factor. G

Oh BS, Germany played a good game. Argentina's plan to play aggressively and basically destroy Germany's offensive only worked for 2/3s of the game. Too bad for them that they kinda ran outta steam in the end.

Italy - you're next!

So, what are the chances of England going out today... I'd be very surprised if we win - we really don't deserve to be in the quarters, let alone the semis! Saying that, in '66, we didn't really start playing well until the semi's, and then we went out and won!

The thing with England - we have some really world class players in our squad, yet they don't know how to play together, and so we end up with poor results! Hopefully, with Sven resigning, this will change..

I expect England to go home after today.

World class players, yeah right. The only reason the English media keep carrying on about how world class the squad is, is because nobody in England pays any attention to how all the foreign players are performing.

Owen: sitting at home watching the telly.
Rooney: not fully fit.
Beckham: too old.
Crouch: too clumsy.

And don't get me started on Sven's selection criteria.

Blessed are those who expect nothing, for they shall not be disappointed.

Rooney is an idiot for that shove. That's what gave him the red card, and that's what killed England's chances. And we all know how much they suck at PKs.
Ahh, they could've won!

Now I'll be supporting Brazil for the rest of the tournament...

Some observations.
1. Portugal are floppers (the "eye rake" is a prime example)
2. England rarely flops
3. Rooney is a talented idiot
4. C. Ronaldo is a stud for Portugal, even if he is a flopper. His footwork and pace is just amazing.
5. Lampard is going to hate himself over World Cup '06
6. Gary Neville is England's only spark.
7. Figo is old and wiley, even if he didn't perform so well today.

YUO FAIL

It's Kaká, and it's only a nickname, supposedly a commonly used shortened form of "Ricardo" in Portuguese. A Brazilian friend of mine's mother's named Dudu.

Oh and I believe caca means poo in English as well, as well as other languages - Italian, Spanish, etc.

I think all you examples are not valid ones for saying that England's team is not up to scratch. Owen and Rooney - so they're unfit at present, this does not take away from their overall talent, and hence the strenght of the team when fully fit.

I do agree that Beckham has passed it a bit, and I think this cup will have been his last Captain-ship, but I still think he is a strong member of the team - maybe he is not a particually active player, but he is there to support the whole team, and seems to do it well

I do however completely agree that Crouch is a clumsy idiot. He is far to 'lanky' to be a footie player - he virtually trips over his own legs! If thats the best striker we have in the whole of England, then something is terribly wrong...

3. Agreed - he is a fantastic player (when fit), but his temper gets the better of him, which is very unprofessional

5. Lampard should hate himself - in the Premiership each year, he is a great player, scoring on a weekly basis - this world cup, he has had soooooo many oppertunities, and not once did he score - the final match, for example, he took at least 3 set pieces after Beckham was subb'd, and he f*k'd them all.

6. Neville is good, agreed, but I think, especially in the final game, that Hargreaves (spelt right?) is also a good player on the team, and could be classed as a bit of a 'spark'

Not to take anything away from France because they played a great game pretty much all around, but Cafu played a horrible game and not that well in the Cup overall. Makes you question him and all the "veterans" that get on World Cup teams simply because they were once great.

Also, prior to this game I didn't think the Brazilian players were floppers - at least not the stars, i.e., Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, etc. However, Ronaldo spent more time on the ground after being barely touched than he did with the ball. I reckon it could have been desperation, but still pretty lame.

Look, I dont think England are the best team in the series or anything. But England deserved to win that game. Portugal played like ****, dived all over the place - and ****ing Ronaldo -- did you see the way he was winking and "shhing" at his coach after Rooney got sent off?!
Beckham isnt too old, we all know hes one of the best players around.

The france game ruled, Zidane was amazing. France++

Paris is going mental. It's like they just won the whole cup. I just got back from St Michel where the fountains are full of people and there are cars and bikes driving around honking their horns. To say they are ecstatic with the win, would be understatement.

Zizou was amazing. Better than Platini or Cantona imho. He's the best France has ever had.

wrong ronaldo.

not that england really deserved to be in the semi-final by their performances so far...but that little arsehole should be ashamed of himself. I hope he has to face rooney, ferdinand and neville on the man utd training ground at least once before scarpering off to real madrid.

He's been shown up for what he is. An average player. Doesn't deserve to be near the first XI.
6. Gary Neville is England's only spark.
That rat faced manc has lost it. Sure he makes some good runs forward but his positional play and concentration is gone. He must be glad this is probably the first big competition he (or his equally rat faced brother) didn't fekk up for England by himself.
