Have a desktop XP connected to DSL. Bought an iBook and AEBS. From what I've read configuing the AEBS from XP is troublsome.
Can I hook the iBook up to the DSL modem directly (disconnecting the XP machine) and then configure the base station from it?
I'm not real knowledgable on this stuff so any help is appreciated!

what you wanna do is hook the AEBS to the DSL, then the pc and ibook to the AEBS (either with ethernet cables or over wireless). this is the physical setup of the system that you will keep, and it allows you to configure either from the ibook or the pc.

I thought that after the AEBS was hooked up you needed to use the Airport Admin Utility to configure the AEBS from one of the computers. Would the iBook have this information?

Sure will. Look in your Applications/Utilities folder for "AirPort Admin Utility" & "AirPort Setup Assistant" (I forget which does what - but last time I made adjustments they were pretty self-explanatory).

looks like there's a brand new way to configure for winxp and 2k:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120273
Airport Admin Utility 3.2 for Windows
it lists a wireless card in the windows machine as a requirement, but later says:
"Note: A wireless capable machine is not strictly required to administer an AirPort Extreme Base Station. You could also be connected using Ethernet on the same network to access the base station."

In general, you DO NOT want to do some things to your AEBS via a wireless connection. You REALLY DO NOT want to upgrade the AEBS' firmware through wireless. You probably don't want to change your WEP key/network password via wireless, either. I make it a point to use a computer that's wired to any wireless base station to make most configuration changes, just to prevent any problems.
Apple released the Windows version of the AirPort Admin Utility quite a while ago, but I haven't had a chance to play with it. How does it stack up, compared to the Mac version, in terms of capabilities?
