Anyone know of a way to get all finder windows to open in List view with no sidebar? I use the dock and dragthing to access everything so I don't need this feature and want to get rid of it.

I do this, although I use column view.

I removed all of the items in the sidebar by either dragging them out or using the preferences. Then, double clicking on the seperator compresses the sidebar. There is a problem, though. Occasionally, I'll get a CD, DVD or dmg that will open its own window that will have the sidebar open part way. Peculiar looking, but not too much of a nuisance. I would actually prefer that they didn't open a window at all.
Peace. Love. MacOSX.

While in list view, click on the divider bar and drag it all the way left. Finder window should then open in list view...if you have unchecked the 'Open new windows in colume view' in the Finder Preferences window.

That helps a bit. I've also noted that when in list view there's no free area to option/click on for a new folder. Creating a new folder is a royal pain, you have to switch to column or scroll all the way down, resize the window for open area then click in it.
