I'm sure she will notice that shiny beautiful aluminum work of art when it arrives. Keep in mind that Macs don't look like a common PC. They are head turners. They look very expensive and she might question the bank account after seeing it.

the key will be to not drool over it too much durring the first few weeks. so don't stay up all night with it, close and open the lid too much, feel how lite it is, take pictures of it and post 'em to the web, etc.

resist those temptations!

chocolates can't hurt either! good thought Rooney.

Sounds like you're clueless when it comes to marriage.
Trust issues, perhaps? Who wants to weigh in on what's really going on here?

Enjoy!

They are trying to bust you. Chocolates are a dead give a way you did something wrong. Keep your old powerbook and if she finds the new one just tell her its hers and you were just making sure it works. I am so bad...Or get rid of the old one and say you sent it in and they couldn't fix it so they sent back a new upgrade. Just kidding. Tell her the truth. This way you can get rid of the wife instead and keep the powerbook.

Cincojoe, if you're based in the UK (or will ship to here, I suppose), I'd be interested in the TiBook.

The outside looks similar, but the keyboard on the Aluminum models is silver, not charcoal. Depends on how observant your wife is!

You spend your time in bed with your wife, and you have your computer?

That's just frigging funny.

I'm a wife and I'd notice if hubby came home with a new computer or one that looks different. Heck, he tries to hide the fact that he replaces his mobile phone each 3-6 months!

I tell you a secret: Give her reasons why you need to trade up and that you will get good pay for your old TiBook, and then ask her if it's ok with her. If that doesn't help, growel, make sure you buy her something she really wants/needs and she might give in.

Not telling? Big No, NO!

We women has a sixth sense and we never get fooled, so if you don't want to stay in the dog house for the next 3-4 years, clue her in.

I have to chime in here, doing things like that behind your spouse's back is not good for the marriage. I mean where will it stop, its a partnership and if you continue to do your own thing how does that make her feel. A new computer is not worth a rocky relationship.

As the other posters mentioned talk with her, providing the justification.

In the end, I'd rather have a happy wife then a fast computer

how so? From your snide remarks you would rather go sneaking behind your wife's back spending a lot of money which she will almost certainaly find out about and be upset?

If that's funny you need to grow up.

I agree. This isn't nearly as serious as people are making it sound. I just got a 15" 1.25 ghz a few weeks ago and I love it. Enjoy the new machine, they're awesome, man. Every time I use it I think, "Damn... this machine is sweet."

With my wife, a PowerBook is no competition. Unlike you...

I hope you get a good laugh out of this.

That's cute. I spend a lot of time in my bed alone with my laptop. Note to self, get a girlfriend.

I agree. My ex GF from a couple of years back easily got jealous if I sat one hour to many on my computer. What a insecure person that was.

Maybe it's stereotype, but if that's the criterion of being insecure, the most women I know fall into the category

It's a shame, really. When we're in bed, my wife only wants to read, sleep, or ... do, y'know, that other thing. She almost never wants to use the computer!

I guess it's the season for spousal surprises.

My husband's away on a video shoot and won't he be surprised when he finds out I ordered a new fully loaded 12" PowerBook 1.33GHz/SuperDrive for him!

With Final Cut Pro he's now able to shoot AND edit on the road with everything fitting into two carry-on bags. Imagine: Media 100 replaced by Final Cut Pro and the large G4 tower being stood in for by a laptop that fits on an airplane tray.

Hmmmmmm, let's see; he runs over MY laptop* and HE gets a new laptop, now is that fair? ..................... But then again, he's a hard-working road warrior and of course I get his other, nearly new laptop. Ah, if only our keyboards were illuminated for when we use them in bed late at night.

*See thread 210255.

My boyfriend just got a new 12" 1.07ghz iBook and I got the 12" 1ghz Powerbook. And we spend a LOT of time on the couch or sitting in bed, each on our own babies. Awww, life is sweet. We can spend hours not talking to each other and just being on the computer!

The funniest thing is sending what we call "ping" messages when we send an email or an IM to the other with "ping" in the message. Understand we're side by side working on our computers. The receiver then says "pong" when they get it. It's amazing to see how fast a message goes up to the DirecTV satellite and back down.

It's an amazing world isn't it?
