Small grey mark, seemingly under screen cover, what is it?

Under my macbook screen (the depth appears to be different than that of a stray piece of dust ON the screen) there is a small, grey mark, maybe 2 mm long. It certainly does not disrupt my use of the machine, but it is quite annoying, and it catches my eye almost every time I use the thing. Can anyone tell me what this is, and if there is anything I can do to get rid of it?
Thanks in advance

That was my first thought. The mark, however, is oriented diagonally, and i don't understand how a group of dead pixels could be ordered in such a way.
