Bush mentioned tonight that he has enacted sanctions on Iran, and is entering into contracts with the Iranian government. In fact, they are doing so openly, using their company name. I think we can all agree that this is not cool, and that we shouldn't be supporting a government that seems to want to wipe a lot of countries off the map with nukes.

Republicans seem to be upset about it:
"I am baffled that any American company would want to have employees operating in Iran," says Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. "I would think they'd be ashamed."

Who is this company violating sanctions? Read here.

Typical. I wonder how many of these "international" companies were involved in Oil-For-Food as well.

The US government should f--- off. A company should be able to do business with any individual, company or nation as it pleases. The US and Iran should establish diplomatic relations and free trade agreements.

Do you think free trade for some is more important than national security for the whole country, Mr Libertarian?

National security? Sorry but Iran doesn't have a naval fleet just off the California coastline preparing to invade.

Freedom and trade will lead to less of a need for national security concerns anyway. The more American products end up in the Iranian street, the more they start to value what we value, freedom, capitalism, human rights, etc etc.

If goods don't flow across borders, then troops will.

If we had billions of dollars of trade going between Iran and the US, there would be an enormous interest in preventing conflict between the two counties.

Does that answer your question Mr. Neocon?

That's gotta be the funniest thing I've read all day.

Some threats need to be addressed before they get that close. And if nuclear threats aren't in that category, I don't know what is.

Freedom and trade will lead to less of a need for national security concerns anyway. The more American products end up in the Iranian street, the more they start to value what we value, freedom, capitalism, human rights, etc etc.
That's very optimistic. You don't believe that exploitation of foreign markets by greedy American companies can breed ill will? And you don't believe that embargoes can ever be effective or appropriate?
