well, I bought a 15" PB on friday, after being converted by usage of a friends powerbook..

All went well for 3 days - then the white spots happened. got it replaced today. sat down to use it, hit the escape key, and the top corner of the kb sunk in to the case, due to there being no support.

getting it replaced again tommorrow, after speaking to a tech there. thank god for DOA.

This time I am prepared, after mirroring to a firewire drive as a startup drive, and then doing carbon copies of the system I have set up, so the "reinstall" tommorrow wont take 3 hours.

its been a bit of a shakey start for me into the mac world, but I am optimistic, and hope that laptop #3 will be the one that isnt faulty

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate entry into the Mac world. However, as you are, stay optimistic - the OS is truly a nice change from say Windows. Good luck with your third PB.

I would get a 17" or wait. All current stock 15" Powerbooks have at least a 40% chance of having white spots out of the box or developing them over the course of a few weeks. If you do get another one and its screen is bad, wait till at least December and have the screen replaced.

My CTO strait from Apple's Taiwan plant sent on the 22 of Oct has the worst screen I've ever had in 7 laptops and the worst I've ever seen.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the 40% figure? BTW, I'm about to buy a 15" PB.

Nope. laptop #3 was not the lucky one. It didnt want to know about the airport card.

My apple reseller has told me not to come back in until close of business today, so that they can give me a powerbook that works.

4 laptops in 5 days - pretty impressive.

I heard it was 38.654%.

Seriously, I think the issue has been fixed in production. New PBs should have good screens.

Sucks about the keyboard, that kind of thing troubles me more than the screen, as it should be a no brainer.

Hope the new PB works out better.
