HELP!!
I'm not so clued up with computers, but my Powerbook g4 seems to have a system failure.
When i switch it on it crashes, the grey screen wi he apple sign remains, with writing inside black blocks says

System failure: cpu=0; code=00000008 (unknown failure code)
Latest crash info for cpu 0:
Exception state (sv=0x19527780)

The mouse doesn't correspond so i can't write anything to continue. It just emains still!

Does anyone know what i can do?
I'm away from home right now, so i don't have the start up discs with me, and i'm using my parents P.C to post this.

This is the MacBook forum - you'll want the PowerBook forum.

At any rate, if you have the Apple hardware test disc, try putting that in the drive on boot and holding the C key down until you see the Apple logo and then run the test itself when you can. That may point out the source of the problem (corrupt hard drive, bad memory, and so on). Alternately, booting from the OS X disc that came with the Mac may be a way of seeing if it's the hard drive. If you can boot on a basic level from the OS X disc, the hard drive or the OS install is at fault.

Some things you can try:

1. Startup with the V key depressed (verbose mode) which may tell you more of where its crashing.

2. Try removing RAM sticks leaving one in at a time to see if its a problem with a defective RAM module.

3. When available, try booting from the system restore disk. If it boots--run disk utility first aide on your hard drive.

4. If you have a hardware test disk, when available, run the diagnostic tests there.
