Hi, I can't seem to find any posts to this topic. If someone can explain to me. I am currently using a powerbook g4. I want to be able to make a disk image of the entire hdd and restore it using dvd/cds method. (I have firewire/usb) but I find dvds are more convient. I used a program called SuperDuper but when it gets to step "2. Copy Files" it starts creating large load of data that fills the entire drive untill complete.
Basically I want to be able to run anykind of program like disk utility to restore my mac hdd using a dvds.
thanks

I don't understand why you would find DVD's more convenient. If you don't already have one, I would suggest buying a comparably sized external HDD that you can connect via Firewire or USB2.0, and use a program called Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your current HDD to the external.
Then you can boot off of, and clone back to your mac from, the External drive by hoding down the Option key at startup.
Sorry, I know I didn't really give you the answer you are looking for, but maybe this will help,
Brian

I spent weeks and weeks trying to find an answer to this. I never found one. For me, I was wanting to do the same thing (cost effective).
So to the above poster, I too would like this option, so you see there are now 2 people who want something like this.

Where are you creating the disk image? You CANNOT create it on the same drive. Otherwise it'll try to backup the disk image as it is being created, leading to bad things (like filling up your disk).
You need a separate partition or a separate disk to create the image on. Further, you need to make sure that you don't have any apps running that continually write to the disk, particularly to the same file. BIttorrent or running VIrtual PC (or on Intel Macs Parallels/VMWare) will cause problems.
Incidentally, the SuperDuper! developer is a nice guy, and very helpful, if you have specific questions about his software.
