I bought it with my government discount. I think mine's the cheapest too, $64.50. I wonder why that is... ? Only Apple software applies though, I can't get MS Office for $149.

could you imagine if this were a windows forum and the same question were asked? i'd say 1 in 10 people would have said they were going to order/have ordered the OS.

i don't think ANYONE pirating OS X is a good thing - apple definately deserves my cash when it comes to updates like this - BUT, at least the vast majority is buying it (or at least lying about buying it).

LOL funny one

oh, and I did purchase mine for edu price. To the above poster I agree, if it were windows you wouldn't have these kind of numbers. For $70 edu price, I don't see much point in trying to pirate it. Now when you look at Windows XP Pro for $250 then pirating might be worthwhile. I like to support Apple because I feel that the only way we will see more innovation is if they get more money for R&D. Even a friend of mine was impressed of how cheap OS X is. I told him I had panther coming on friday and when I told him $70 for students, he couldn't believe it. He's so used to pirating Windows because it's so expensive.

I intended to skip this upgrade because I didn't really want to pay another 129.

But I became curious and downloaded 7B80 just to see what it was like, and liked what I saw.

In fact, I liked it so much I'm going to buy it after all, next monday. Damn you, conscience!

There should be an option for if you aren't planning to buy it, in my opinion.

On the flip side, I did buy it. Hopefully my university store will have it for me tomorrow, I don't want to wait till Monday!

p.s> I'm guessing about half of the people 'pirating but going to buy' will never 'get around to buying it.' But maybe that's just me not trusting people. Mac people scare me. Even though I've used Macs since Quadra660AV, they still scare me.

update: I purchased it on the Monday after, stupid university store. But I did install it using a friend's CD on Friday. Upgrade install. Had some problems so did a clean install Monday with my CDs. Same problems.. Nice overall experience, though.

Bought it! Was able to get Panther for $20 since my 15" PowerBook was qualified, bought it October 1 and sold it to get a 12" AlBook instead.

Got mine through my company's ADC account; I've been running Panther for a week since I downloading it last weekend.

But I'm also going to "buy" it when I buy my new PowerBook in a few weeks.

How about "I pre-ordered it, but downloaded the GM because I couldn't wait?" I think that's different than "buying it eventually", which likely never actually happens.

I'll be honest and say that I "pirated" 10.3 ( 7b85 ) yesterday.

I will purchase a retail copy after the first "dot" upgrade.

Sure are a lot of "ADC Select" members here......... talking about pink, hairless pussycats?

I don't think so.

No wait, I also am an "ADC Select" member and I also got my student discount so doesn't that mean "Apple" pays ME for "Panther"?

I pirated it... I've been using it for about 2 weeks. Before you jump all over me with moral judgement, I ordered a copy too. I am buying a copy through the 'up-to-date' program because I bought a G5 and I ordered a retail copy for my wife's iBook.

Just had to buy, 'cause:

1) It's the right thing to do.

2) Apple's been doing lots of great hard work and this is going to be more than a little improvement in the way I get work done on a daily basis. (A test drive of Expose alone showed me that.) The company deserves our support through an honest purchase in return.

3) There may be a few bugs for some folks; that will always be. I've got no problem updating as that comes along. I'm ready to start integrating the new Apps features into my way of working.

Noooooo just checked with the university store, I won't get it until Monday. Guess I'll use my friend's copy to install it now! Assuming they're still shipping the Up-To-Date ones for tonight.

Both. I couldn't wait for the release, once the GM build was confirmed I dl'd it and installed it on my G4. Tonight I will purchase the real thing. I'm then going to do a reformat and re-install.

Pirated it because I couldnt wait, chances are I will buy it. Not because of moral issues (Don't have any really... morals or issues) but I like the security of knowing I have viable system disk, not burned copies which can corrupt instantly under certain types of bright light (Metal halide fish tank lights can corrupt disks... i happen to own one...) or the finnakey-ness of certain optical drives (My iMacs DVD drive has problems reading burned System Cd's but the PowerBook has no problems) I just really like consistency.

Personally I think the speed increases and stability warrant the upgrade price, the flashy eye candy and clock cycle eating graphical effects don't do much for me after the third or fourth time of use. I just want speed dammit.

I was going to order it when I get paid next week, but now I'm leaning toward buying one of those $1099 SuperDrive eMacs.

It came on an eMac purchased Thursday the 23rd.

Still think I'll pick up a boxed copy tonight for at home (though I couldn't resist running the installer on the office G4 ).

So in your world, the option of getting Panther via the Up-To-Date program does not exist?

Humm, why does it bother you if people copy it or buy it in Thailand for 10 bucks. Seriously, what do you care?

I got mine via the up-to-date program, but will not be able to vote cause that does not exist in your voting category...

All I want is my Panther, I couldn't care less if you owned a Pirate version, all I want to know is how it runs on different Macs...

Stupid, the Macnn, forums have been swamped with people bitching about others getting theirs before and how they stole if etc... Bla bla bla...

If you don't pay so much attention to them they will not be a problem...

Uh dude, you WILL get the full install discs!!! The Up To Date program gives you the same discs as those sold, only without the box.

Don't waste money on something you will get in a few days anyway..

Buy and iSight instead...

Just a thought..
