Well, you could start by telling us what kind of iMac you have, and fixing your caps lock key.

Edit: This is what I get for not looking at the games page index first.

I Have An I-mac 1.6ghz. It's Very Slow Though.

You Have A Pentium 4, Is It Fast For Doom 3? I Was Thinking About Buying A Dell But I Heard They Break Real Easy.

Why can't people get the name of their computer right? Same with iPod, so many people type it wrong.

It's iMac, not IMac, I-Mac, i-Mac, IMAC!

I don't have Doom 3 for Windows, therefore I don't run it on my Pentium 4. A Dell probably wouldn't run it too nice either unless it was a high end one.

Try lowering your graphics settings on Doom 3. You're running one of the slowest machines possible for it. Your graphics card isn't that fast.

Sorry to tell you, but Doom does require good hardware. A 1.6 really isn't a top of the line game machine, about equal to a laptop. How much ram does your machine have? that could also make a difference. You really need at least a gig of ram to make it into anything close to a "Game Machine", so if you are running less what you see is what you get. And the quality of your video card is very important also, probably more than the speed of your processor.

As far as the Dell goes, it all depends on which Dell you buy. The regular $300 - $400 Dell is not going to be all that hot, but their high end machines are not bad. And as far as the Pentium 4, my system with 1 gig of ram does a very nice job on Doom 3 and every other game out there.
PowerMac G5 - 2.0 4 1/2 Gig Ram - Tiger 10.4.2
30" Apple Monitor - LaCie d2 Tripple 320 Gig
iMac G5 1.8 1 1/2 Gig Ram 20" - Tiger 10.4.2
Amd64 - Gamer - Water cooled

You limitation is primarily the video card in the iMac. The new iMacs now have decent video cards. If you want to play Doom3 and do not want to spend $1000 + on a new PC or buy a new iMac, I suggest you get an XBox. Gaming on the Mac = joke.

I think gaming on any computer is pretty much a joke, considering the price of the machines required to play them.
Of course, that's just me.

Macs were never known as gaming machines... If you feel the need for speed I'd recommend a fast PC - I have a PC sitting here collecting dust I built for gaming but gaming has become stagnant - Doom 3 is the most bloated POS I tried to play. There's hardly any new games that are actually "New" - most are just copies of other ones.

i would have to agree with everybody here, the problem is the imac was not made to handle these kinda games. i would spring for a powermac g5 if you want to play intense games like doom 3. plus you can upgrade you video card over the years when faster cards come out. something you can't do with an imac.

I finally have given up on gaming on my Mac. There is just so little available, and what there is, is way overpriced. I got an Xbox and can now game to my hearts content. I love my Mac, but it is not a game machine. I realize Mac's can be powerfull enough, but there are so few commercial games.
